Tipster claims OnePlus 9, 9 Pro won't feature periscope lens

Sagar, 26 January 2021

Leaked renders and images of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro suggested these phones won't come with periscope lenses, and we've heard the same from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, who said the lineup will come with a regular telephoto unit instead. Now tipster Max Jambor has corroborated that bit, saying neither the vanilla 9 nor the Pro variant will feature a periscope module.

It's unclear why OnePlus doesn't want to implement this tech since Oppo and Realme have launched smartphones with a periscope camera onboard, and it will be interesting to know the Chinese phone maker's rationale behind this decision.

While OnePlus is giving the periscope tech a miss on the OnePlus 9 series, we hope to see the lineup still come with some camera improvements since OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has said the company will focus its R&D efforts to improve the cameras on its smartphones.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are rumored to arrive in March with Snapdragon 888 SoC and 120Hz screens. These will be joined by a Lite variant, which is said to come with a Snapdragon 865 at the helm.

No periscope lens? Im disappointed, ill stick to my OnePlus 8, and wait for periscope lens on OnePlus X. Look at the old Huawei p30 pro, old phone but with outstanding 5x optical zoom
