OnePlus addresses green tint with the OnePlus 8 Pro’s display

The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are available for sale in the UK and Europe since April 21. The devices aren’t releasing in the US until April 29. However, as the first customers get their hands on the new OnePlus phones, some users are reporting concerns with the display.

There are two incidents that are causing a stir over at the OnePlus Community forums: one of them is the appearance of a green tint over the display in low brightness settings. Granted, its one of those cases where a display acts strange under a specific set of conditions, but it isn’t one worth overlooking.

Users have discovered that turning on “DC Dimming” under the 8 Pro’s “OnePlus Laboratory” settings seems to fix the green tint behavior. Inadvertently, switching on the DC Dimming feature causes a “black crush” side effect. “Crushed black” is when darker areas of an image lose details and result in splotchy patterns.

Following reports of this story, a OnePlus spokesperson reached out to confirm that it is already investigating an issue and working on a fix to arrive via an OTA update. It also confirmed that users can switch on the DC Dimming setting as a temporary fix.

Chances are you may not even notice the issue if you are using the OnePlus 8 Pro under most circumstances. The green tint appears to happen at very low brightness levels when there are images of primarily dark grays or black.
