Anonym, 15 Jun 2021Mediatek has subpar support for proper AOSP custom ROMs and... moreThere's no problem to find sources of (nearly) all the devices based on Mediatek's available in western countries.
Indian developpers are able to build custom Rom AND custom Kernels for devices with Mediatek's.
When something doesn't work, it's more often due to modules (for exemple some 64MP cameras), not soc.
European developpers only don't want to.

Go on XDA, have a look at Redmi Note 8 Pro's page.
Plus, how many people install custom rom? 1%, 2%?

You said your for competition. And show Qualcomm as an exemple...is it a joke?
With CDMA/LTE patents, this company is responsible of assassination of most competitors : Texas Instruments, Broadcom, Intel, nVidia, ST-Microelectronics...all these companies no longer build soc for smartphones...disrespect of FRAND!

This company refuses to promote free AV1 (even 888 has no hardware decoding).

This company promotes their proprietary Aptx to rule wireless audio instead of standard LC3.

    I'm still waiting for a D1000+, 1100, 1200, or even 900 in Europe, I don't want the Qualcomm's obsolete video decoder...still not a single one.

Don't bother me with your Snapdragon, you have the choice, too much choice...
    I still haven't

Shadocx, 15 Jun 2021Subpar Mediatek? Have you even tried the Dimensity series? ... moreMediatek has subpar support for proper AOSP custom ROMs and an historically negative attitude towards the GPL licenses of the Linux Kernel (and other FOSS projects they are happy to leech from). This pales in comparison with Qualcomm that at least maintains proper repositories to build the AOSP ROMs, free and open access for everyone to build a ROM for their SoCs.

The only hope for a custom ROM in Mediatek (and there are quite a few "shadier" builds) is to use the original BSP to compile some version of a custom ROM (jumping through all the hoops in place and going against the will of Mediatek). Why support such a sh*tty company that has such a negative attitude towards the community? I am all for competition, competition to do better -- not a race to the bottom of who can be even sh*ttier.

Yeah, it seems like even midrange are starting to lose the 3.5 mm jack these days...
LG, Sony and Asus still have it on their flagships if you need that.

Shadocx, 14 Jun 2021Why are you complaining about this midrange having USB 2.0,... moreNot complaining about this phone specifically (but also) but about every phone that's coming out in 2021. I mean, usb 2.0 in 2021? seriously? They're taking out the headphone jack that that's a thing a lot of people still use but they don't update usb standards in their phones?

At least put a usb 3.0 port in the thing, that's been around for 10 years and virtually every pc today has usb 3.0 ports. Why not use that much high transfer speeds and keep putting old usb 2.0...

Guys it is just a leak don't have to take it so seriously

Bodygard, 14 Jun 2021Why usb 2.0 in these phones? It's 2021 and brands keep... moreWhy are you complaining about this midrange having USB 2.0, when Xiaomi is selling 800-1200€ flagships with USB 2.0 in 2021?
Since 2019, every OnePlus flagships have USB 3.1 and maybe even higher, this site doesn't mention which Gen.

Edit: I just noticed this isn't the original Nord page, anyway, it says "Unofficial preliminary specifications", this phone could end up with USB 3.1 since it has a D1200.

Why usb 2.0 in these phones? It's 2021 and brands keep using 2.0 when there's 3.2 already available?
New pc's all have at least usb 3.1 ports and phones have 2.0? The difference in speed is enormous, try to transfer files between a phone and a pc and you'll see.
                        I know the costs are higher for 3.2 but c'mon, usb 2.0 it's a year 2000 standard, 20 yrs old man...Jeez

AFAIK Dimensity 1200 supports Bluetooth 5.2 why is this Bluetooth 5.1?

If this actually has the D1200 at the same price as the original Nord, I've completely changed my mind on the Nord series. This would be amazing.

                                  Please OnePlus make this happen.

I definitely hope that this Nord replacement will have a headphone jack. The use of Dimensity 1200 chipset does give it an enticing prospect for an affordable flagship alternative.
