OnePlus Nord 4 arrives with an all-metal body around a unique design

The OnePlus Nord 4 was unveiled today at the company's Summer Lunch Event in Milan, Italy. This new smartphone features a design that goes against the current glass-sandwich trends, and opts for a metal unibody instead.

The phone runs on Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 with either 8 GB, 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM. Storage is either 128 GB UFS 3.1 or 256 GB/512 GB UFS 4.0.

The OnePlus Nord 4 is built around a 6.74" Super Fluid AMOLED panel that has up to 120 Hz refresh rate and a 1240p resolution. It has a single punch hole for the 16 MP selfie camera.

The back features a 50 MP main shooter with OIS and EIS and an 8 MP ultrawide snapper. The main camera can record videos at up to 4K resolution and 60 fps.

The Nord 4 features a 5,500 mAh abttery with 100W wired charging support that helps it reach 100% in under 30 minutes. However you'll need to purchase the proprietary adapter separately because there's not going to be one in the box.

The battery will retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 full cycles, which should put anybody worried about quick charging causing excessive degradation at ease.

OnePlus aimed for a metal unibody design from the start, which required innovative solutions. They repositioned the antennas into a U-shape and added small pillars inside the phone's rear cover, effectively halving the antenna size and enhancing signal amplification.

The name of the new design is called Nordtones, and the phone comes in Mercurial Silver, Oasis Green, and Obsidian Midnight.

OnePlus also hyped the Nord 4 as the first international phone with an AI-infused midrange chipset. The features that enables are AI Audio Summary, AI Note Summar, and AI Linkboost that reconnects to mobile networks "faster than ever."

Nord 4 also offers an AI Groupfie feature that artificially changes people's eyes in group shots so nobody is blinking.

The phone runs Oxygen OS 14.1 based on Android 14, and OnePlus promised 4 Android version updates and six years of security updates, meaning it would be supported until 2030.

In Europe the OnePlus Nord 4 costs £429/€499 for the 12/256 GB version, while the top 16/512 GB option is priced at £529/€599. Pre-orders are already open and those who pre-book will get free Nord Buds 3 Pro TWS earphones and €50 off if they opt for the bigger storage version. Open sales start on August 8.

In India pre-orders are opening on July 20 with open sales commencing on August 2. The pre-order period will have the 8/256 GB variant for INR32,999, while the 12/256 GB option is INR35,999.

A third 8/128 GB version will be joining them once shipments begin - it will retail for INR29,999.

Yeah, it worsens heat conductivity, I wasn't disputing that. This shouldn't be a problem unless the phone's thermal design is terrible. There are also bumper cases (cases where it's only the frame) if you want to consider thermal ...
