Anonymous, 24 Jun 2023That's pretty cool that Asus Zenfone 8 can do that. Ho... moreYou can do that almost on any phone after rooting it and installing 3C CPU Manager.
I did not measure how much battery I saved, but I certainly know, that for some app I am not running CPU/GPU on higher frequencies than needed.
I created several profiles in 3C manager after find out(using simple system monitor app) which CPU cores are apps utilizing and how much %.
Temps can be controlled very well this way. At full CPU and GPU utilization(~15W) at the same time(only benchmark apps) temps are attaking 95°C after few seconds. No way cool it down otherwise than limit frequencies. As everything is on the same chip, utilizing just CPU is also affecting GPU temp even if it is not utilized at all...and vice versa.

It is good to avoid temps over 85°C if there are plans to use phone several years.

Most of the apps and games are designed for weak devices, so there are no problems with temps on zen8 in this case. Where it make sense is recording 4k with OIS or high speed 1080p 120/240/480fps...you can simply record more minutes on battery life if you set the frequencies just enough to keep desired video frame rate and not more.
At hot summer days this helps a lot as the CPU/GPU is cooled with just thin copper plate which goes right under the battery.

Horrible overpriced phone without ultrawide camera. You can get an A34 for cheaper, literally.

Fixargeddon13, 06 Jun 2023Oh c'mon, it is 2023, main CPU cores should be 2.4 GHz... moreIt's enough for everyday purposes, and since they decided to limit video recording to 1080p@30 only, there's no need for higher performance at all.

On my zenfone 8 I set four kryo Silver to just 600MHz, two GOLD to 710MHz and the rest is off...and it is enough for web browsing, watching OSM maps, youtube, videoplayer.

For example 4k60fps OIS needs four Silver@1.8GHz + three GOLD@1.67GHz to achieve 60fps.

For gaming with adreno 619 there is again no needs for higher CPU core clocks or some kryo PRIME core.
In this price category there should be 1080p@60fps video standard in 2023. And as it has 108Mpix camera at least 4k@30. That is sad.

Weak battery for 5k mah weak chipset

Clear copy from Zenfone 9 but way more uglier.
The bottom 2 camera lens looks awful and with two 2mpx useless cameras...1+ should look for a neg designer

The battery endurance numbers are out and as I expected, the battery life is worse than previous N20 due to the 6.7inch LCD display.

Anonymous, 12 Jun 2023It's meant to be the entry level OnePlus phone at T-Mo... moreThat is not correct, the N300/N200 is the entry level OnePlus phone from T-Mobile/Best buy. The N30/N20 is supposed to be their mid range phone but like you said, the specs of the N30 feel like a flatline(at best) regression(at worst) not an upgrade.

The specs of a next generation device should at least be an upgrade. The N30 just needed a newer processor and I would have felt like it was an upgrade even if it was super minor.

The way it stands now I'd recommend the N20 over the N30 simply due to the OLED display. The IPS on the N30 is 120hz but the OLED on the N20 has better sunlight visibility, viewing angles, better AoD, and color accuracy. I feel like people shopping at this entry level/mid range price point would focus more on how usable the device is as a daily driver.

It should be around $ 200

It's just a rebrand of the European version except it only comes in black instead of pastel.

This gives it one more Android update to keep it relevant for the two year service contract.

It's a good entry level phone on it's own merit, but just a flatline or even regression from the entry level N20 Nord currently at T-Mobile and Best Buy.

Besides the larger screen and 500mah larger battery, isn't this phone barely any different from the N20? I feel like the N20 is actually a BETTER phone. The N20 has a smaller screen but it's an OLED screen. Everything else seems "roughly" the same? I've seen the N20 brand new for like $150-$200.

The large 6.7 IPS would use more power vs the 6.4 OLED so the extra 500mah would be negated. Processor is the same? Camera is probably a tiny bit better on the N30 but probably not enough for anyone to really notice. I actually think the smaller and lighter N20 is better.

What is OnePlus thinking?! And here I thought the OP11 was finally a move in the right direction but then they move backwards with the N30?

                                    What's happening with Realme?
Oppo, OnePlus and Vivo have disappeared from Germany. Now only Realme remains from the BBK Electronics family. The smartphones can still be seen on the website, but I recently revealed that cell phones are no longer sold in Germany. Accordingly, BBK Electronics should have said goodbye to all brands from Germany. Whether there is a way back remains to be seen.
