Software upgrade to only android 15 is a deal breaker

Follow up on OnePlus Open. Still running great.
Some tips I did was I installed a leather case w/hinge protection from AliExpress.

Then I Download Google's apps for replacing default (Phone, Contacts, messaging, Gboard, photos, clock). Now I have more AI features and better experience than my past Pixel Fold.

The OnePlus Open multitasking Open Canvas UI cannot be overstated how superior it is over BOTH Samsung & Google which I owned multiple units.
Thoae that speak from experience know best.

The screens are STILL the highest resolution screens of any current foldable, and resolution makes the difference, Plus the CREASE. The non- existant crease, even after months usage, is still invisible. No manufacturer, even Chinese, has a better inner screen crease than OnePlus. None.

Anyways, the price is currently lower than all the main competition out there, and it still is just a more polished unit, plus the IR Blaster remote has been more useful than I ever expected.

I don't see a need to upgrade until the phone does. I'm sure the OnePlus Open 2 will be the foldable of the year, next year, but so far IMHO nothing beats this phone in form factor, size and usability. Fast Charging speeds & battery life just superior. This is what Samsung was supposed to be, yet will never be, as I hearing the next iteration zFold will stubbornly remain the same size.

The only Achilles heel on this phone was a few loud bad customer experiences on repair. In retrospect, we see many more times failures from Samsung, but they deal with it quickly. The Samsung fold was only rated at 200,000 folds, and tested to 400,000 before failure. Meanwhile the OnePlus Open was tested to One Million folds.
Superior resolution and superior hinge and superior crease makes this phone more reliable+better looking.

Upgraded from Z Fold 3 to this phone. Living in germany. Got this phone for 1300€ on OnePlus website with ~300€ discount and another 10% student discount on top of it.

I also looked into "Vivo xFold 3 Pro" and "Honor Magic V2" and V3 but also went to hardware stores and checked out the "Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold" and "Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6".

So why this phone and not the other ones?
          - "Vivo xFold 3 Pro", "Honor Magic V2" and V3: No eSim support - all versions of those phones I found were always imports from china, over there eSims are strongly restricted as I understand. (Would I have been lucky and manage to find one with eSIM support, I would have picked the Vivo over OnePlus Open, just a sidenote - check their specs, especialy battery)
          - "Pixel 9 Fold Pro": Only thing that got me interested was the whole "AI edit pictures" and "AI turn this sketch into a picture" which is behind a payway that is a monthly subscription only free a the beginning. Imagine buying a phone for nearly 2000€ and getting baited into paying even more monthly. Beside that no interesting feature.
          - "Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6": Pathetic charging speed, even worse wireless charging, battery not upgraded since Fold 3 , front display still too narrow, inner display selfie camera still same **** since Fold 3. Packaging lazy for a premium phone, not even a charger brick is included. I am really mad at Samsung because I was honestly ready to throw money at them but watching all this competition rising up and making objectively better foldables then them I can not support them anymore.

I can understand if somebody would still pick another foldable over "OnePlus Open" but the "Z Fold" - series is imo completely stomped by now.

TCool, 23 Jul 2024Go for Honor Magic V3 OnePlus Open has Bluetooth pen ability like the Honor V3, which will cost more and Global version comes later.

Tried the zFold6 & Google 9Pro Fold in store. They "feel" nice but slightly cheaper hardware quality than the OnePlus Open. They both copy the same outer edges, and the 9Pro Fold actually goes further to feel like the OnePlus Open in the hinge and motion. Yet it's slightly bigger. Too big and using same cheap shiny plastic bezels. Plus heavier. Meanwhile, the zFold6 is lighter. The same weight as the OnePlus Open, but feeling hollow and smaller in width. It absolutely feels like a toy (a cute toy) with bright but odd shaped front screen being so narrow. The hinge motion is stiff. Stiffer than even the original Pixel Fold. It just feels cheaper and hollow in the hand. Meanwhile, the OnePlus Open just feels like a finely made watch. The materials are top notch and more quality feeling, with smoother hinge action than the big clumsy 9Pro Fold. Google didn't take into account that it has become too big to hold and use. Coming from the original Pixel Fold, The OnePlus Open is the logical progression forward. Multitasking is superior to both Google and Samsung, which means better Productivity. Google still comes in second for convenient AI integration, but too big with new model , and too small with old. Samsung only has a well done UI. All their software gains are like candy for show. It is a different approach to the OS, than Google, which focuses on actual productivity. The OnePlus Open has the most evolved approach to multitasking, with less AI integration than the Google, which can be a bit intrusive. OnePlus Open is the best choice in 2023&2024& easily into2025.

Love the Open. I've had it about 3 months now. Came from Pixel Fold....which I loved the wider screen, but hated that it was so squatty/short. The open camera's are great. Though the Open's Remover Tool is no Google Magic eraser, but now that's available with Google photos, so there is no loss there!
The inside screen is big, useable with no issues. No real software issues so far and it's updated regularly. Battery life is very good overall! I'll aim to keep it 2 years if possible. We'll see when the Open 2 finally comes out next year and see what the deals are. With trade-in the Open was amazingly priced.

                                Oppo Find N3 rebranded

It a premium product in India so naturally units sold will be in hundreds. On Amazon I see there are about 50 reviews and 2 reviews were such were the user faced screen spot blacking issues. Oneplus refused to fix the issue even though the devices were still under warranty and in turn have asked to pay INR 60k about 725 dollars to service the screen. In MKBHDs video he clearly pointed out that he was noticing a small black dot in the couple of weeks he used the device. So obviously this device is not at par with the likes of fold 5 which is in this 5th generation.

All foldies are too much money for 2 years use.
