Tried an X8 Pro in a store... the curving glass is quite annoying with its light reflections.
Don't you think the same?

What do you think about the fingerprint sensor?
It is optical and seems to be placed in a lower position compared to other smartphones: someone who owns this Oppo X8 Pro can please describe their experience?

Are notifications and quick settings separated when you swipe down from the top?
I mean, depending if you do the swipe down from the left or right side of the status bar.
If yes, is it possible to disable this, in order to only have notifications?

going around, 09 Jan 2025Ultrasonic and optical fingerprint sensors differ in their ... moreRight, but in practice it makes absolutely no difference. Many Samsung users complain that their ultrasonic scanner is actually worse than the optical scanners in older Samsung phones. Not as fast or accurate.
Other complaints about ultrasonic is that they don't work well when using glass screen protectors, while optical sensors have no problem.
I find this is another school playground argument of wanting the "best specs" for bragging rights. It's cringe and childish.
Who cares?
As someone who actually has this phone, the fingerprint sensor works flawlessly every time. And I am coming from several years with Sony Xperia devices, which used ultrasonic scanners in recent years, and those would work perhaps 2/3 times. Eventually it failed on my most recent Xperia device.
And that is another big negative about ultrasonic - there are more things to go wrong with them vs. optical sensors, which are a more simple component.
I do agree the bright light at nighttime is not nice with optical, but just close your eyes or look away... Or even more reason to not needlessly check your phone while trying to sleep, and get to sleep. Check your phone in the morning when it's brighter again.

Zoltan, 09 Jan 2025Guys, anyone who has the phone!! Could you tell me how is t... moreYes it has a document viewer. Otherwise there are plenty of free apps on G Play. As for buying the Chinese version, why?
You only had to wait a month or two and you can pick up a global (UK) version for a similar price either on eBay or Amazon.
You now have a faff for the lifetime of the phone, and I am pretty sure the Chinese version doesn't have an esim, while the global version does.
Next time, don't be so impatient. Just wait a few months for the price to come down.

Guys, anyone who has the phone!! Could you tell me how is the document reader? I am using vivo x100s pro, which is perfect. I can read any format of document ,or convert from word to pdf, jpg to pdf, jpg to word etc. Only downside of the phone is it is the chinese version, so whatsup, ebay, or messengers messages aren't arrives at time, or simetimes the phone doesn't even ring out when someone calls me. I tried to get info and wanted to buy the Oppo in the O2 shop in Edgware but the seller couldn't say anything about the phone, and only important was for him to
stop touching the sample mobile. I am using my mobile as a little office because sometimes it lot easier then play around with my laptop, and I am not fancy to pay 15£ monthly to adobe for the service I can get for free from some of the mobiles.

Zoltan, 09 Jan 2025What is the difference between Ultrasonic fingerprint scann... moreUltrasonic and optical fingerprint sensors differ in their accuracy, cost, and reliability:
Accuracy
Ultrasonic sensors are more accurate because they can penetrate dirt, oil, and moisture on the finger or surface.
Optical sensors can be over 99% accurate, but they can have trouble reading dirty fingers.
Cost
Optical sensors are cheaper than ultrasonic sensors, with average costs of $500–$1,900 compared to $50–$500.
Reliability
Ultrasonic sensors are more reliable and secure than optical sensors. They can create a 3D image of
the finger, and they work even when fingers are wet. However, ultrasonic sensors can be frustrating to use
if the glass or print is dirty.
Availability
Optical sensors are more widely available than ultrasonic sensors.
Ultrasonic sensors are only found on premium devices, like Samsung's S and Note series, and the Pixel 9 series.
Technology
Optical sensors work by shining light on the finger to create a 2D image.
Ultrasonic sensors use sound waves to create a 3D image.

Zoltan, 09 Jan 2025What is the difference between Ultrasonic fingerprint scann... moreUltrasonic is better if only because it won't blast a light in your eyes in the dark when you want to unlock your phone. Samsung have been using ultrasonic since 2019, so no excuse for Oppo to scrimp on this phone except $$$.

What is the difference between Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and the normal fingerprint scanner?? Why is everyone so obsessed? I had S23 ultra with ultrasonic scanner and a bunch of other phone without the ultrasonic scanner. Honestly I didn't ever feel the difference. Only phone which had issues with scanner was the pixel 8 pro, and Xperia something. I am not even checking what kind of scanners I have on my phones. Seriously I have an X100s pro and I have no clue what scanner it has.
