Oppo Reno9 series debuts: Pro+ comes with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 16GB RAM
Oppo announced today a trio of Reno9 smartphones - a vanilla Reno9 with Snapdragon 778G, a Reno9 Pro that shares the same body but runs on Dimensity 8100, and a mighty Reno9 Pro+ with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and three cameras on the back.
The Reno9 Pro and Reno9 Pro+ both launched with 16GB RAM as a base option, which is a first for the Reno series, and a feature we haven’t seen in an Oppo phone since the Find X3 Pro flagship, launched over 1.5 years ago.
Oppo Reno9
The vanilla smartphone of the trio brings a 6.7” AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. It supports 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate.
The 10-bit panel has a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and reaches up to 800 nits brightness in regular mode and up to 950 nits when displaying HDR photos and HDR10+ video content.
The back of the phone has a similar design to the Reno8 series, but this time the camera island is flush with the rest of it and only the lenses are protruding. The dual camera has 64MP main and 2MP B&W sensors, while at the front is a 32MP selfie shooter with autofocus.
The battery has 4,500mAh capacity and supports up to 67W fast charging with the provided adapter in the retail box. Other specs include Android 13-based ColorOS 13 out of the box, a light body of 174 grams which is also just 7.2 mm thick in the base, without including the cameras.
The Oppo Reno9 is offered in four colors - Black, Gold, Pink Gradient, and Red. Prices are CNY2,499 ($350/€335) for the 8/256 GB variant, CNY2,699 ($378/€363) for the 12/256 GB version, and CNY2,999 ($420/€403) for the 12/512GB units. Oppo is currently taking reservations on its website, and the first sale will take place next week - December 2.
Oppo Reno9 Pro
The Pro member of the family has a lot in common with the regular Reno9 - they share the same light thin body, the 4,500 mAh battery and the 6.7” AMOLED screen.
The 5nm Dimensity 8100 chipset by Mediatek is the most major difference, the other being the camera setup and the presence of MariSilicon X NPU - Oppo’s own platform for advanced image processing, improved 4K Night video and 4K Ultra HDR video.
The Reno9 Pro has a 50MP f/1.8 main shooter with 7P lens and AF, and an 8 MP f/2.2 ultrawide-angle cam with 112-degree FoV. The selfie camera has the same 32MP sensor as the vanilla though.
While the vanilla smartphone has the speedier LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage only in the most expensive version, here these are available in both the 16/256 GB and 16/512 GB variants.
Oppo Reno9 Pro comes in Black, Gold, and Pink Gradient. Prices are CNY3,499 ($490/€470) or CNY3,799 ($532/€510), depending on the storage selected. Pre-sales are in order, while sales will commence on December 2.
Oppo Reno9 Pro+
The star of the show is the Plus member of the family. At the front it has the same 6.7” AMOLED display and 32MP selfie, but this phone is curved, making for a smaller footprint.
Oppo kept the signature design on the back, although here it had to elevate the whole camera island. The main 50MP f/1.8 camera has a 6P lens, AF and OIS. The ultrawide shooter has an 8MP sensor with a wider field of view - 120 degrees - and also acts as a macro cam for close images (up to 4 cm). The third aperture is for the 2MP depth sensor.
The Reno9 Pro+ is technically the first phone with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset that also has the MariSilicon X NPU, even the flagship Find X5 Pro is on the older, non-plus version of the Qualcomm chip. The AI capabilities of the Oppo, empowered by the chipset, would bring substantial improvement in color quality and clearer details.
The phone is slightly thicker and heavier, and that’s because the battery capacity is increased - 4,700 mAh. On top of that, it supports 80W fast charging over the USB-C, and Oppo is including the adapter in the box.
The Reno9 Pro+ comes in Black and Gold colors, and here we also have an exclusive Mint Green option that looks stunning in the images. All three colors are available with 16/256GB memory at CNY3,999 ($560/€537), while the first two paint jobs also come in 16/512GB flavor at CNY4,399 ($616/€590).
Oppo is already taking pre-orders on its website. Sales will begin on December 2.
