Original Pixel and Pixel XL head for greener pastures, no longer available from Google store

Peter, 10 April 2018

They had a good run, but now it is time to retire – the Google Pixel and Pixel XL are no longer available through Google’s official store. The first Pixels, replacements of the Nexus line, launched in October 2016, meaning they were on sale for a year and a half.

Google committed to 2 years of software updates for these two, meaning they will enjoy fresh software for another six months. This means that Android P will be the last version the original Pixels receive. They will get security updates fro another year, though, so it’s not like you have to chuck them in the trash come October.

Anyway, if you were thinking about buying a first gen. Pixel, now’s your last chance – non-Google stores should still have some units left, but once they’re gone, that would be the end of it.
