Great phone. Great standby time. Otonomy mode is a nice feature. You think the phone is dead, and when a call is received it awakes from the dead :)
Solid operating system. Never had a crash or restart. You can count on it. This is my 1st phone that didnt crash once.
Dont expect a camera. Buy the 9@9i if you want.
Dont expect Bluetooth. Accept the phone as it is. Infrared works perfect with all phones here.
Nice software that comes with the data cable (Mobile Phone Tools).

      Remarkable Pros:
      - Nice MIDI Wavetable, good sound.
      - If you want a reliable phone that never runs out of battery (I forget where I have put my charger) buy this phone.
      - Contrast, Brightness, and EQUALIZER, wow!
      - Nice OLED, the phone looks great. Good finishing. The phone looks elegant and expensive.

      Downsides:
      - Cant edit/personalize Profiles.
      - Philips support sucks, doesnt exist.
      - Not every Java game works (2 out of 10)
      - Menus could be a little faster, but its OK.

      My 2 cents.

I was looking for a long time for a phone with this standby time. I have five months using it and I am really pleased with it. I am not such a power talker (average of 15 minutes per day) - I recharge it at a two weeks interval. I have a few requests, I mailed them to philips, too. Maybe if they get more requests they will release a firmware upgrade:

          1. There should be a possibility to have the external display on permanently.
          2. The missing call announce should be louder, at a fixed interval and also, maybe a blink of the icon on the external screen would help.
          3. For the phonebook:
3.1 Once you highlighted a name in the book, pressing OK should display the information about that contact, not the menu it displays now.
3.2 There should be a possibility to change the way the names are displayed (now they're sorted by "last name"). I would dlike to have them sorted by first name, as long as I have different fields for first and last name.
          4. There isn't T9 function for Romanian.

Overall it is the best phone I ever had.

I know that some LCD driver chips have that "refresh rate reducing" property to reduce energy consumption. Having asked the local Philips Service, I realized that reducing the refresh rate of the inner screen of 650 extends battery life. Some people are more sensitive to refresh rate changes. This glittering or flickering is normal I mean...I love my 650 :)

The screen flickers in ECO mode, because every pixel of the screen doesn't stay full ON, the phone turns that pixel On and Off at a high rate...human eye sees it like it's on, but when the phone is moving (sideways for example) you can see it flickering. :)

Have you noticed the LCD screen flickering when display is set to Eco Mode?

If you are just looking for a phone, NOT a TOY, then here is the best match... With an unbelievable battery life, good casing quality, and elegant color options this phone is a real "business" phone. However, it's hard to find accessories (usb data cable, handsfree set) for Philips 650 (Xenium 9@9c) in the market. By the way, if you need to take photos, buy a real digital camera, which will significantly give better results than any cellular phone camera.

Look at the PHILIPS XENIUM 9@9i or its equivalent 660 in Europe. Philips listens to you and have come up with a built in 1.3MP camera with the same specs as the 650. Cheers to Philips and long battery life.

Just use the Philips site. Through the www.clubphilips.com and you will be able to set up your phone over the air with the requested settings.

... been using my philips xenium 9@9c for almost 2 months now. i heard 9@9c is just d same with the 650 model. same design but some difference on the label. i was able to download GPRS/MMS settings from pc after surfing the web. too bad i forgot the site, and after i switched SIM cards (Globe-SunCellular) i messed up with the configurations. I cant find the sign this time after endless searching. can anyone share me if you know a site for downloading GPRS/MMS settings. thanks.
