Pixel 2 XL screen produces a bright flash when locking or unlocking the phone

Peter, 09 November 2017

The Google Pixel 2 XL is plagued with a thousand issues, quite a few of which concern the screen. Now a new issue has come to light – many users report that the screen flashes when locking or unlocking the phone.

The issue seems to be related to the ambient display. Some have found that disabling this feature prevents the issue, others say that even just toggling it off and then on is a temporary solution.

This could prove to be a software issue so it could be fixed with a future update. So far the smaller Pixel 2 seems unaffected.

Recently, the Pixel 2 XL screen has had black smears and burn in, which Google corrected by reducing the max brightness and fading the nav keys. The display is hardly the only troubled component on the phone, which might bring a class action lawsuit to Google’s doorstep.

I've always had that on my Galaxy s3. It was common with Samsung back in 2013. Guess that "pixel screen is a few generations behind" talk is kind of true...

You know what you are totally right. Nokia on their first flagship phone in years and they knocked it out of the park. Both Htc and Google are way bigger and more experienced and they have quality control issues.
