Poco X7 (Global) review
Three cameras on the back
The Poco X7 has three cameras on the back and one at the front. There is a 50MP OIS primary, an 8MP ultrawide shooter, a 2MP macro cam, and a 20MP selfie eye.
- Wide (main): 50 MP Sony IMX882, f/1.5, 26mm, 1/1.96", 0.8µm, OIS, PDAF; 4K@30fps, 1080p@60fps
- Ultrawide: 8 MP Sony IMX355, f/2.2, 15mm, 1.12µm, fixed focus; 1080p@30fps.
- Macro: 2 MP OmniVision OV02B10, f/2.4
- Front camera: 20 MP OmniVision OV20B, f/2.2, 25mm, 1/4.0", 0.7µm; 1080p@60fps
Daylight photo quality
The main camera saves 12.5MP photos by default and they are good. There is wide dynamic range, no visible noise and the contrast is alright.
The resolved detail is average, the colors are often a bit over saturated, and the photos look overprocessed to compensate for their imperfections making for this polished, washed-out look.
The camera supposedly offers 2x in-sensor zoom, just like the Poco X6, but, unfortunately, the 2x zoomed photos are far worse than what we got on the older model. Here we got 2x digital zoom, which makes the overprocessed look even more evident.
The main camera can save full-resolution 50MP photos, and this is probably your only way to extract more detail for a crop to achieve a 2x zoomed-like photo. Unfortunately, the 50MP are quite poor in detail and will not yield more detail should you downscale them to 12.5MP, unfortunately.
The 8MP ultrawide photos are average in detail, they too come with over-saturated colors and mediocre contrast.
The macro shots, on the other hand, are desaturated, with poor detail, and often - noisy.
The 20MP selfies are upscaled from the default 5MP output and you can tell by the average resolved detail and overall soft look. They are still quite adequate for color accuracy and dynamic range.
The portraits are likable, if average in detail. The subject separation is very good, the simulated bokeh is believable, and you get wide dynamic range and good contrast.
Same goes for the 2x portraits, which are basically cropped and upscaled from the regular ones - meaning they are good but low on detail.
Low-light photo quality
Night Mode is available for the main and ultrawide cameras on the Poco X7 camera, and it can also trigger automatically.
The default photos shot on Auto are quite nice. There is enough detail, low noise if any, excellent color saturation and wide dynamic range.
The 2x zoomed photos are cropped and upscaled from the regular ones. And if you don't look at them at 100% magnification, you will find them pleasant.
The ultrawide camera saves good night photos with tolerable noise, preserved colors and wide dynamic range. The detail is okay, but some of it gets smeared by the noise reduction. All things considered - we think those are nicely balanced.
Video quality
The Poco X7 supports 4K@30fps and up to 1080p@60fps video capturing on its primary camera. The ultrawide camera maxes out at 1080p@30fps, while the 2MP macro supports 720p@30fps. Finally, 1080p at 60fps is available on the selfie cameras.
You can check out the playlist below, which includes multiple video samples from the Poco X7.
The 4K daylight videos from the main camera are great - they are detailed, with low noise, accurate colors, good dynamic range, and good contrast. The 2x zoomed videos are upscaled from the standard footage.
The daylight video from the ultrawide camera is good - it offers good detail levels, no observable noise, good colors, and adequate dynamic range.
The 4K low-light video from the main camera is solid - there is a good balance between detail, sharpness and noise reduction. The dynamic range is adequate, the colors are true to life. The 2x zoomed footage is poor with a lot of noise, low detail and visible artefacts. Finally, the 1080p ultrawide night video is good with acceptable detail, low amount of noise and preserved color saturation.
There is always-on electronic stabilization working across all cameras (except the macro cam, of course). Poco claims the phone utilizes a combination of OIS+EIS on the main cam, and it does a fine job when shooting from a stationary position and handholding the phone during recording. However, for anything more demanding - like walking shake - the system is not up to the task, and you get severe wobbling in the video.

This main cam is exactly the same, as on the new Poco M7 Pro - so for a 200 bucks phone, the cam is acceptable, but not on a 300-400 Poco X7, seriously.

Compare the new Xiaomi phones with HyperOS crap with the older generation Xiaomi bestseller phones. The old generation xiaomi phones never had any battery issues because they all use MIUI software which is clean and fast compared to the bloated Hyper...
