Qualcomm and Trimble announce GNSS location partnership for Android flagships

Trimble RTX GNSS location technology for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 powered phones is coming later this year in Q2. The industrial technology company is partnering with Qualcomm to deliver meter-level (3 feet) location accuracy for smartphones which Trimble says is 5x more accurate compared to currently used mobile correction services platforms.

Trimble RTX delivers more accurate, higher-quality navigation location with lane-level guidance for premium Android phones. The added service will be available for app developers and service providers to contribute more accurate location information improving the user experience for mapping, driving and other forms of navigation.

Trimble and Qualcomm’s partnership will also expand to automotive OEMs and their Tier 1 part suppliers leveraging the same meter-level accuracy positioning as well as advanced assistance systems and solutions for autonomous driving.

The difference is that this provides a correction (the RTX part) to the GNSS position calculated by the device, allowing it to have aore accurate position.

GNSS is used on Mediatek's at least since Helio X10 in 2015. Even some entry level like Helio A20 uses it.
