Realme GT 6 review
Display
The Realme GT 6 features a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display of 2,780 x 1,264 pixels or 450ppi. The screen supports 10-bit color depth, wide-color gamut, 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling (with boost up to 2500Hz).
Realme advertises the display for its Dolby Vision and HDR10 support, as well as for its 1,600 nits of high maximum and up to 6,000 nits of peak brightness.
We carried out our usual display test with and without the Extra Brightness boost. The maximum manual brightness without the boost was 564 nits, while we captured 940 nits with boost. The automatic maximum brightness was 1,483 nits.
According to Realme, 6,000 nits of peak brightness can be achieved by using 1% white screen and super bright light in front of the ambient sensor. We played a bit with a tiny white patch and we could see flashes of 4,000 - 5,000 nits, so we think the promised number can be achieved with a smaller patch and more capable meter.
Realme allows you to control the minimum brightness the screen is allowed to drop to in low-light conditions - a super neat option! Set to the lowest possible option, the minimum brightness at point white was 1.6 nit.
Refresh rate
There are three refresh rate options to choose from - Automatic, High (up to 120Hz) and Standard (up to 60Hz) refresh rate options. No matter which option you choose, the refresh rate remains incredibly adaptive; it's just the ceiling that changes - 120Hz for High and 60Hz for Standard.
The system switches to 1Hz for static content, 30Hz for 24-30fps, 60Hz for HFR playback, 90Hz and 120Hz for supported apps and games.
The difference between High and Auto modes is that Auto prefers using 60Hz for most apps such as Netflix, YouTube, some browsers, 90Hz for Gallery, etc. While the High always uses 90Hz or 120Hz where possible.
HDR and streaming
The phone supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision content and comes with Widevine L1 DRM. All apps but Netflix serve HDR content, while Netflix offers 1080p SD streaming only. This might change after a while though.
Battery life
The Realme GT 6 is powered by a large-capacity battery - 5,550mAh. The phone also comes with one impressively dynamic display and that is why we expect some impressive battery score.
And that is what we got! The Realme GT 6 scored an outstanding Active Use score of 14:32 hours. It can offer over 32 hours of voice calls, nearly 14 hours of web browsing and over 19 hours of web streaming! Gaming is also plenty enough at about 8 hours.
Charging speed
The Realme GT 6 supports 120W SuperVOOC fast charging for its 5,500mAh battery. It ships with a 120W SuperVOOC charger (USB-A) with a corresponding cable (12A), so you are good to go right out of the box. Realme advertises 50% charge in 10 mins.
This is exactly what we clocked in our charging test - 50% in 10 mins, 66% in 15 mins, and 100% in 28 mins. It takes another 4 mins for the phone to display 'Charged'.
There are various battery charging optimizations such as charge limit to 80% and smart charge. There is also a Smart Charge Boost - which usually boost the charging speed in the lower % and it is turned on by default (this is how we did our test, too).
Speakers
The Realme GT 6 features a stereo speaker system, where there is one speaker at the bottom of the phone, and the earpiece serves as another with the help of a second top-facing outlet.
The sound is balanced even if the bottom speaker is louder and with richer output.
The Realme GT 6 scored a Very Good mark in our loudness test. Its audio quality also deserves a similarly good mark for its good bass, great vocals and rich high-frequency range.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
