Yet, "so many" display damage complaints were registered for them, serving as an initiative for the s24 series to revert to flat ones. (So is what I read somewhere)

"6000 nits, brighter than the sun!?" --- Explained

The 6000 nits is the "peak brightness". It's only ever achieved, whenever required, for specific pixels of the screen, while playing HDR content. (Read it again)

You can't have the entire screen that bright at the same time (even when playing HDR content). Furthermore, the "peak brightness" can't be attained (even for specific pixels) for anything other than the HDR content. Implying that unless you're playing some HDR content, neither manual, nor auto brightness mode will achieve that brightness even at their max value.

The terms "typical" and "HBM" (High brightness mode/sunlight mode) are used to denote the nits representing the maximum brightness achieved manually and under direct sunlight in auto-brightness mode, respectively, and are thus a better scale to measure the screen brightness in regular usage / daily life.
