Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ quietly debut at the low-end
Xiaomi's Redmi unveiled a whole bunch of new devices yesterday - the Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro, and Redmi Note 12 Pro+, that is. And yet, the sub-brand has also recently made another two handsets official, albeit in this case very quietly, by simply adding them to the Mi global website.
We're talking about the Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+, and these are much, much lower-end than the others. The Redmi A2 has a 6.52-inch 720x1600 touchscreen, it's powered by the MediaTek Helio G36 SoC paired with either 2 or 3GB of RAM, it has 32GB of expandable storage, an 8 MP rear camera with a QVGA auxiliary lens alongside it, a 5 MP selfie snapper, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 10W charging support. A 10W charger comes in the box, and charging is accomplished via microUSB, believe it or not.
The 'barely believable' theme continues with the software. This phone runs Android 12 (Go Edition). So it probably won't surprise you to find out that there's no 5G support baked in. There is, however, a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Redmi A2+ seems to be more or less the exact same device, but with just one added feature: a fingerprint sensor, which is on the rear. Both of these will obviously be sold for dirt cheap wherever they do end up being offered. You can get either of them in light blue, light green, and black.
