Redmi Note 14 gets six years of security updates, four major Android updates

Vlad, 17 February 2025

If you've been looking at the recently launched Redmi Note 14 4G and Redmi Note 14 5G, and wondering what to expect from these two devices in terms of promised updates, here's the nitty gritty straight from Redmi itself.

The international Redmi Note 14 4G will get six years of security updates, along with four major Android updates. Since it launched running Android 14, this means it will end its life on Android 18, most likely coming in 2027.

On the other hand, the international Redmi Note 14 5G is less fortunate, for reasons we don't quite understand. This model will get just two major Android updates, along with four years of security updates. Since it was released with Android 14 on board, the 5G phone will end its life on Android 16, which is supposedly coming out this June (but of course it will probably be several months before it reaches lower-midrange devices like this one).

All of this information comes straight from our contacts at Redmi, so it's as official as it can be. While we do appreciate the update window for the Redmi Note 14 4G, which was clearly influenced by Samsung's moves (now offering six years even on low-end smartphones), we would have liked the same promise to apply to the Redmi Note 14 5G as well. Still, as the saying goes, you can't always get what you want, so there you have it.
