Redmi Note 7 fails spectacularly at an actual durability test
Redmi Note 7 arrived with an impressively low price and 48 MP camera, and expectedly sold in 1 million units in just 30 days. The company president shared plenty of scripted videos from China where the device was getting abused, but today JerryRigEverything posted its durability test, revealing many weak points of the $150 smartphone.
The bend test revealed the weak spots of the plastic frame are around the power key and next to the SIM tray. A phone might bend accidentally if sit on it while it is in your back pocket, rendering the LCD of the Redmi Note 7 useless. The back is covered by a Gorilla Glass 5 with an extra layer, but that did not stop the panel from shattering into million pieces.
Lu Weibing, the Redmi president, shared videos on Weibo where the Note 7 was used as roller skates, like a cutting board, had a durian dropped onto the screen, and had people stomping on it. The abusive clips were trying to tell us how durable the cheap midranger is, but the JerryRigEverything test proved us otherwise.
Such extreme situations rarely happen in real life, but it’s good to know the Redmi Note 7 does not need much to bend and break beyond fixing.
