Quad-camera vs. quad-camera

The Realme X2 has a quad-camera on its back. The primary is a 64MP cam with f/1.8 aperture, 0.8µm pixels, and PDAF. The ultra-wide snapper is 8MP with 13mm f/2.3 lens and 1.12µm pixels, the macro camera is 2MP with f/2.4 with relatively large 1.75µm pixels, but its focus is fixed, and the last one is a 2MP depth sensor.

The X2 has a single-LED flash.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro uses similar 64MP primary with f/1.89 aperture, 0.8µm pixels, and PDAF. Then there is an 8MP snapper with 13mm f/2.2 lens and 1.12µm pixels. The macro camera is 2MP with f/2.4 aperture, 1.75µm pixels, and autofocus. Finally, there is a 2MP depth sensor.

The Note 8 Pro has dual-LED flash.

As far as selfies are concerned, the Realme X2 has a 32MP front snapper with f/2.0 lens and 0.8µm pixels, while the Redmi Note 8 Pro features a 20MP shooter with 0.9µm pixels behind f/2.0 lens. No autofocus is available on either one.

Camera apps

The default camera app on the Realme X2 is identical to the other ColorOS-powered devices. Swiping left and right switches between the Photo, Video, and Portrait camera modes but there's also a small hamburger menu that contains all other modes such as 64MP, Nightscape, Panorama, Expert, Macro. The additional settings menu is in the upper right corner giving you control over video resolution and frame rates.

The Expert mode (Pro mode) is for the main camera only and gives you the usual settings to tinker with - ISO (up to 3200), shutter speed (up to 16s), white balance, manual focus, and exposure compensation.

Redmi X2 camera app

The Redmi Note 8 Pro camera app is a typical MIUI affair, but it shares some similarities with the Realme X2's. Switching between modes is done by swiping left and right, but unlike Realme, Xiaomi has put all modes on here - no need to dig in a hamburger menu. There is also settings menu around as well, and it doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary.

The Pro mode works with the normal camera, the ultra-wide, and the macro. Manual 64MP pictures are also an option. For the main camera, you can use up to 32s shutter speed and ISO up to 3200. For the ultrawide, the shutter speed goes up to 16s, while for the macro - it's 1/4s.

Winner: Redmi Note 8 Pro. Its camera app makes more sense, offers more options, and its macro camera has autofocus, which, in our experience, is a great boon for macro shots.
