Reliance Jio crosses 100 million subscribers, announces new plan for Prime members

Prasad, 22 February 2017

India's Reliance Jio, which deployed the country's largest 4G-only network last year, has announced that it crossed 100 million in the 170 days since its launch. Customers have since then used more than an exabyte (1000 petabytes) of data every month. This is because Jio has had free 4G data since launch, which was initially truly unlimited, then capped to 4GB per day and now down to 1GB per day.

This is part of the Jio New Year Offer, which is valid till March 31, 2017, which provided users with free 4G data. Jio has already announced tariff plans that will come into effect from April 1 onwards. However, the company today announced a special plan for existing customers wherein by paying INR 303 ($4.5) per month, they can continue to get the benefits of the New Year Offer till March 31, 2018. This includes free 1GB data per day and free access to all the Jio online streaming services.

Enrollment into the Jio Prime offer can be done between March 1-31 through MiJio app, Jio.com or Jio retail stores. This is only for existing customers.

As before, domestic voice calls and SMS will remain free forever on all plans.
