Apple iPad Air review: Sun and heir

9 November 2013
It’s been tempting lately to conclude that Apple doesn’t have it anymore, and tablets in particular is where Cupertino does need to silence the prophets of doom and gloom after an iPad 4 that was more like a 3.1 and a mini that should’ve...

I'll pass for now until Apple decide not to cheapen out on DRAM and include more than 1GB. Also, give them time to work out the initial issues like the one that caught on fire. I don't want to risk burning down my house.

duel, 13 Nov 2013Yes it is, it feels very different in hands than older iPads.I saw one today.

You can argue until you're blue in the face about Apple's specs not being groundbreaking, but there's no denying that good at fitting the technology into thin, sexy chassis.

And its easy to see you dont own iPhone 5S, you wouldnt say that if you do :) because there isnt reason to not use touch id. When you try the touch id it feel so natural that you want to use it, just like this guy above you said, you know he actually own the phone...

The fingerprint sensor on the iPhone is the best hardware feature to come along on mobile phones in the last few years.

I use it all the time and Apple wins big on this one.

Clearly you dont own the iPhone 5S, touch id is great feature and people start to use it very naturally because its so well done and well placed.

Its also faster to open your phone with touch id than even open your phone without password, so you wanna use it. I think most of iPhone 5S users use it.

Normal way to open your phone, push home button then swipe unlock.

Touch id, push the home button for one second and you are in home screen.

You shouldnt compare it to with crap like face recognition.

Since everyone is passing their reviews, I thought I would too

It is really nice to see apple come near the retina display for its tablets (retina value for tabs is more than 300ppi-http://mostly-tech.com/2013/11/08/debunking-the-retina-display-myth/)

People complaining about sound quality/loudness on any nexus tablet can be fixed (it's between Google and apple) either by poweramp or even better by using viper4android if your headphones really are good enough (its sound quality is too good for cheap headphones)

Its performance is insane, any apple pad gives insane performance which is too good for a tablet! When compared to a nexus, even that does give really nice performance but fails to give iOS fluidity

I would never touch a camera on a tablet so I will not write about it!

Touch ID is another gimmic like face recognition on android 4.0+ and rarely 2% android users use it mainly for show off

Both iPad and nexus 10 run on dual core
IPad air has a 64 bit processor which is another gimmick according to me. What really did count was the new architecture they used that gave them superior performance. However if they would properly make those armv8 processors, the battery would be simply outstanding. Nexus 10 runs 2 cortex15 cores that are known for performance. However nexus 10 is almost a year old now so it wouldn't be fair to compare in terms of processing power

Now comes the main question of iOS or android? It depends! If you have really put a lot of money on apps and games on iOS, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Keep using your old iPad until it crumbles. If you have not invested much, I would suggest them to try android. Android may not be able to give iOS fluidity widgets and the way you can personalize your tablet surely is interesting! Coming from iPad to nexus 10 gave me more icons in my app drawer and even useful widgets like a big clock on my main page, YouTube subscriptions on the next, email on the right etc(even android is fluid but not smooth enough!)

Now the final thing is, if you have the cash and have really invested a lot into the apple ecosystem, I suggest the new iPad
For those who want the best of googles software and want to use their tablet and not get used by it, I recommend nexus 10 (second gen coming soon)
For those who want the iPad but cannot afford it and start disgracing it for it to be too damn costly, shut the f*ck up!
