Nokia Lumia 1520 review: Finnish fable

20 December 2013
The Nokia Lumia 1520 is just like the rest of the premium Lumia smartphones we've seen, but bigger and faster. The advanced imaging and the custom app selection by Nokia will make the difference against Android phablets...

Hi,dearest friends.Undoubtedly Nokia remained behind 4 masterpieces before saying final goodbye!Nokia 808 pure view,lumia1520,2520,1320 were the last memories from Nokia.According to the gsmAren,s complete review,Nokia 1520 is still one of the high end smartphones in design, features, performance and other superior qualities and having the chance to be upgraded to the window 10 OS.In short I prefer Nokia 1520 to some famous unsupported never unupgradable buy and go brands!!!Hopefully Microsoft continues unfinished incomplete works of Nokia with the most support, modifications, and care! Thanks factwriting GSM,Microsoft,Nokia and all of you.Justice Rights.

Best phablet hands down. Mine is running 8.1.1 developer previewand I can tell u its not the windows phone 8 that came with my 920. I dont lack any apps and the kids corner is A+. I have two friends with note 3's before I got this beast but was not impressed with the note 3 its like a big galaxy s4 also I gave up on Infrared port and remote control since windows mobile days. A happy L1520 customer. By the way sold my s4 i9500 after I bought this also hd a note 8.0 and hardly use the S pen.

Is the sunlight legibility test done with assertive display mode ?
how the sunlight contrast ratio is low for 1520 ?
Does anyone one know why the sunlight legibility test done by Gsmarena for Lumia 1520 gave low score though it has assertive display ?

Every time I read a Nokia phone review here it always start with prediction of nokia's death and yet the review always end up with a begrudging admittance that it is a good phone. I have samsung note 3 which I hated. So many features but none useful. I also have Nokia n8 and the camera though old could still kick note 3 in terms of quality. I want to change to a new phone and I have always felt if Nokia could give their phones faster processor it would be awesome. I also want a phone with good sound quality and great camera. With this one for once I am considering retiring my n8. Pls stop with starting every article with nokia's death or last phone. They may not be coming up with lots of versions but I can see they are catching up on their own time. This phone sounds great and being Nokia no doubt the hardware will be surname. Software can be upgraded.

I have used Nokia 1520 for at least two weeks and below are my feed backs.

                          Pros

                          - Build quality is awesome
                          - Phone is dam fast with Windows 8.
                          - Awesome camera
                          - Display is awesome and touch response is buttery smooth.
                          - Phone doesn't lags at all.

                          Cons

                          - Lack of apps in the windows store
                          - Apps which are currently in the store needs updates but still not updated like whatsapp.
                          - No option to increase the vibration intensity. I have missed many calls while travelling when the phone was in vibration mode.
                          - No option to move the pictures taken from camera to move them into folder.
                          - No option to select multiple pics at a time and delete them. Deletion can only be done one by one.
                          - You cannot customize the WP. Only customization is you can change the color of the tiles.
                          - No notifications on top when you get any messages or mails.
                          - No notification light which is very useful when you get any mails or msgs, and this should be given in a highly priced phone like this.

My personal experience - WP is good in some departments but still way behind android. I still dont see them in race with android at the moment but they can change things later.
Not a phone for people who loves many apps. Windows play store still lack badly.

The phone has great signal the best i have experience and built quality is excellent, i love this phone cannot wait for the 8.1 update.

When Nokia will wake up and realize that Android had done the milestone !! expensive phone for no decent features, no apps !!! there is no BBM, so how would you encourage me to switch to your phone when you pay for most of the apps !!!!! poor screen sensitivity, it is a very complicated smart phone and not worth a $1

I think Nokia and Microsoft do not understand the current market trends. People not only want to take great pictures but they want to organize them into folders too. Symbian was lacking it and it died. WP lacks it but still alive thanks to great hardware but for how long???

Amazing phablet, but I wait till the Lumia 1320, it's cheaper and I don't need neccesarily the highest spec for it.

Having said that, unless looking at extremely zoomed pictures of each, the human eye has trouble discerning the differences between those two high-resolution cameras, even though the 1020 has twice as high a level of resolution as the 1520.

Bottom line-- if you like a more compact unit, choose the 1020. If you like more real estate in terms of screen size, the 1520 is for you.

There is, in my opinion, no *practical* difference between the cameras.

Windows 8, a platform that features Microsoft Office as a selling point, continues to commit the mortal sin of not being compatible with HID devices, specifically a Bluetooth keyboard.

Why they continue to ignore the HID Bluetooth profile and deny their users the simple joy of having a full screen to view and an actual keyboard on which to type, ESPECIALLY given Microsoft Office, is beyond me.
