sfgh, 26 Feb 2014The super fan of nokia but now moved to android due to lack... moreso guys, and maybe this is not the right place to have this discussion, but what really were the shortcomings of symbian? My latest experiences with these devices were on the N8 and samsung S4 so maybe i didnt experience all the issues. i STILL prefer the N8 camera/physical button and mapping services(not to mention distinctive physical design) over the S4.
And just a minor annoyance - N8 had home screen rotation. S4 still doesnt!!(jelly bean)
Anyway, on topic, I gotta say, i think these phones are a step in the right direction. decent physical design and I do prefer android over the windows phone. Windows phone (from experience with the 520) seems very clean and neat, but it really doesnt feel intuitive.
I would think that lots of people with older lower range nokias, would much rather stick to a nokia when it comes to upgrade time, and the android interface is much less of a shock than windows.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2014Nokia WINDOWS phones are just sensational - no need for ANDROID.Maybe YOU don't need Android on Nokia, but the rest of the world does. Sadly, this just may be too little, too late.

Its a good thing for Nokia to touch the waters here on Andriod..
but the specs wont let a person like me buy one.
its a good introduction though.. at some point just like Windows Mobile they will start to bring kick ass specs which is suprising they didnt considering all their phones are running on snapdragons 1.something up.

The best UI by far had the Nokia N9 (MeeGo/Harmattan)!! So sad they didn't worked on with MeeGo... This / everything after it was just a bad copy!!
Anyway - now I'm going with Jolla & Sailfish OS!!
Great OS and amazing exemplary employees which are in conctact with the awesome community (together.jolla.com) every day!!

I am a huge fan of Nokia, and I still love my old cranky stuttering N8 which is still awesome. I welcome these phones not because they embrace Android but because these are lower priced phone of moderate quality meant to appeal for low end users, or maybe 1st phone owners or young owners. Clearly not for phones enthusiast. Why Android? I suppose Nokia wants to tell the world they do because they can. I don't see how these will be further developed to more expensive higher end phones like those lumias and what nots.

Ohh nokia you took so long , so many years to come to this inevitable decision . If you had accepted android earlier than microsoft would not have acquired you . it is a step in right direction and there is a long way to go . Because of accepting android lesser known and chinese companies are doing a lot of profits and gaining market access . Learn something from them nokia ! Cheaper smartphones running amyloid have to be made to get access to many countries and asian markets which have lot of population and lot of scope

For the record - Yes I was a nokia fan boy. Couldnt be happier back in the day with my N8. The only major drawback was lack of decent app selection and no mobile hotspot out the box. In fact some of the great new "features" coming out in new versions of android were working fine on this phone.
Anyway, now that the disclaimer is out the way, I currently own an S4 and was wondering(hoping) that if nokia now has a proper version of their navigation system in android, will this not filter down to poor users like me? via an APK even?
(I find it way more intuitive than google's mapping, and they actually have live traffic for most roads in South Africa)

MdN8, 24 Feb 2014So what if it is forked? It's simply Android without Google... moreYou will see what Im talking about...
Is not a rule if you run a Forked Android version you will run APKs and Google Apps.
Even Google is going to close Root Access on future Android releases, they dont like you mess anymore with the OS..Sorry the truth hurts..

This just in.. "Sales of Lumia 520 plummeted pushing the Microsoft WP OS to near extinction. This mysterious phenomenon occurs at the same time as the announcement of some phones that should not exist or were brutally prohibited from development but is the most revered dreams of most consumers, by Nokia itself"
