HTC One (M8) review: One and only

25 March 2014
To say there are great expectations of the freshly announced HTC One (M8) would be a massive understatement. This is, after all, one the of flagships to shape the entire season. But a predecessor that failed to turn warm reception into good sales...

Stuff the gorgeous metal unibody. I can't stand the big bezels above and below the screen. I don't need a defence weapon in my pocket. Only the lack of SD card slot is the problem of LG G2.

AnonD-245620, 25 Mar 2014if you need ,,better'' camera buy one of this crap Desire 6... moreBelieve me, this phone not gonna sell much!

They is simply not much improvement at all. Only few die hard fans will support it.

HTC is not gonna better and with this M8, it will be getting even worst only.

Even S5 is superb ugly but at least it still pack with better spec.

This year until now the best and the most awesome is still Z2 as Sony listening on consumer.

What?! A FULL review already??! No first looks or previews whatsoever??! The phone's just been revealed and GSMarena already had the retail unit and full review posted??! I'm totally taken aback right now. That aside, I think the phone's great. But I'd still go for the Xperia Z2 everytime.

This phone would otherwise be competitive if it wasn't for the rubbish camera.

I don't want to pay 600€ for a flagship phone and get worse photos than my old Nokia. Even 8 megapixels would be fine, but this 1/3" sensor simply can't capture enough detail.

Your comments on 4K recording on a smart phone are somewhat silly. It is intriguing that you think you can see the benefits of 4k recording on a 1080P telephone screen, apart from the limited screen size there is the small matter of how it is possible (it is not)to view more pixels (4K)on a screen only capable to display 1080. Leaving the small matter of science behind for a moment, I take it all those 4k recordings are for viewing on our £10k 4K TV's! 4k recording at this point should be regarded as no more than a marketing gimmick and you do yourselves no favours for falling for it.

As for the matter of mega pixels I challenge you to go out on to the streets and randomly ask passers by what the pixel count on their smart phones is, I suspect the result would be most revealing.

In conclusion I think your review is poorly balanced and you should remember the camera is but one aspect of a smart phone, after all the M8's predecessor was (more or less) universally regarded as the best Smart phone on the planet with a less well performing camera.
