The only downside is that you won't be able to purchase apps in the store if your phone region does not match your true region. Also Cortana will only use the metric system if you specifically ask her to convert.

WP was late to the party, and playing catch-ups with this WP8.1 update isnt going to help them, apart from keeping their actual consumers. The market-share is already taken by iOS and Android, and in terms of features and apps, they both beat WP.
Many say WP has not had much time in the market but in my opinion, time can't be a factor for being behind. MS had years of experience (Wp7, windows mobile).
I just came across a sponsored ad by Nokia South Africa on Facebook. Unlike the Samsung page where people are praising the products, on the Nokia page there's a large number of people complaining about their phone lacking features (ussd, no bluetooth share for users using WP7, no offline radio...), lacking apps used in most developping countries such as BBM and Opera mini, cant share audio on WhatsApp, cant find folder for downloaded songs etc etc. Maybe you think these things dont affect you, or you dont care, but they are the main reasons why people prefer other OS. Honestly, as a long time user why would you leave iOS or Android for something that offers less?
As much as i want to like WP, I must admit it lacks too many things. It's fast and has a clean UI, but that's all. WP fanboys will always say they dont need this and that, but in the end we always want more.

Anonymous, 30 Apr 2014Android hangs too much for me to use as a daily device."android hangs too much" has become a typical 'fanboy' argument, apparently when a WP fanboy hears "android" he thinks "android 1.0."

There are positive and negative sides for each and every OS out there. I personally like Android and WP because of their own characteristics. With Android, I like the way Google gives option to their users on how to root and personalize your device plus the number of apps is another advantage over WP but I never use all the apps in Google play so why should I blabber about something I could have with WP's market? As long as I have the apps on WP market then I am fine with WP. Another thing is that WP is just a young OS compared to Android but look at the progress of WP, with the 8.1 version a lot has been added to the table unlike with the upgrade on 4.3 to 4.4.2, only several changes were made! Do not underestimate the power of Microsoft's OS since Microsoft is Microsoft! It builds computers while Google is just an application underneath the Windows OS originally! Without Microsoft, there could have been no Google but without Google, Microsoft can survive since there had been Yahoo that was even more popular than Google before. Google was just so smart in making Android phones that is why their name became bigger and now they have a lot to offer but without that strategy, Google is just like a Yahoo and Firefox combined app/search engine. I just want to see an Android device that doesn't lag. I haven't experienced any lag with the Lumia 1520 that I own. Android already has the brightest star now but the brightest future when it comes to more development with the things an OS could offer is with WP since it has not been maximized fully yet.
