Alcatel Idol X+ review: 8-ball game

28 April 2014
TCL-owned Alcatel has been slowly, but steadily making a name for itself for selling affordable, well-made phones throughout the entire price range. This year's Idol X+ is their flagship and it's an affordable yet robust product. With an octa-core processor...

AnonD-237024, 29 Apr 2014I don't know why everyone whines when there's no SD card su... moreThats your usage, doesnt fit most people. When i bought 16GB Note 2 i got memory full errors within 3 days, just needed a few minutes of video recording and some stuff, i didnt even transfer my mp3 collection yet. The Xperia phone i had before that had 4-5GB free on a 32GB card.

Maybe you dont need a smartphone. Or actually im quite sure you dont. But we need memory cards, very many of us. And at the end of the day? The important thing is to accept what others want and need without getting all grumpy, i can feel that this really angers you, that just aint normal or healthy.

AnonD-210521, 28 Apr 2014Does anyone know why phones these days have removable back ... moreA removable back makes for much easier and quicker servicing of the device.
Most brands use double-sided adhesive tape, and their phones are WAY harder to disassemble.

Android Man, 28 Apr 2014judging by the benchmarks in the review. it looks like this... more"Most quadcores on the market" is not present in the tests in this review so your conclusion is what is pants. In _all_ CPU benchmarks where it performs bad except "Benchmark PI" some other expensive high-end phone like LG G2 or Nexus 5 also performs the same.

So it's probably about vendor customized drivers not the CPU itself.

I don't know why everyone whines when there's no SD card support on phones.

Its like some comments are like: "OMG No SD CARD slot NOT BUYING"

You don't NEED a SD card IMHO, you should be fine just with the default memory (unless its anything under 8GB, then you might have a problem).I own a 16GB Galaxy S4 and I'm happy with 8GB of memory.

It comes down to that just because there's no SD card slot doesn't mean its a bad phone.

Now I wait for hate comments...

Does anyone know why phones these days have removable back but not removable battery? What is the justification?

judging by the benchmarks in the review. it looks like this octocore is pants. certainly slower than most quad core phones on the market. so question what is the point of a octocore cpu is its slower than most quad core.

It seems audio quality is disappointing despite having those sabre dac and maxim headphone amp.

Alcatel building name? You mean TCL sold as Alcatel i Europe for nostalgic reason.
