Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Sony Xperia Z2: Droid gladiators

04 June 2014
The flagship Android segment has always been a battlefield but you wouldn’t want to be around when these two are in their most violent mood. The Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 are two of the most advanced smartphones to ever sit on a...

Z2 might have more mp, but the S5's sensor captures better contrast and detail.
ui is preference and the new settings is neat imo.
Fingerprint scanner is not best, but works well if uses correctly.

So...have you even seen an S5? ???

As for music there is little you can do free or without root/mod.

Did anybody considered the 4.5 GB user available internal memory of S5 to 9.8 GB in Z2 of 16GB variants? Further more the UHD recording is hell of S5 against Z2 thanks to 20.7MP shooter. The new interface of S5 made us S4 users a headache....isn't the simpler the better? The fingerprint sensor didn't worked as expected as it failed to recognize it 3 out of 10 tries. I am not a fan of sony but samsung messed it up big-time.

            xperia z2 or galaxy s5?

s5 has alot of features, but it doesn't have fm radio.

z2 is simple and smooth, but multi-tasking in s5 is better.

            Help!

Z2 is the absolute winner in my opinion

              Reason?

              People should remember that:
you can always upgrade software lacks with firmware update or third party apps...
but you can never upgrade hardware lacks like 1 gig ram, stereo speakers, FM radio, etc...

              for ex.:
People complain about lower headphone speaker volume output on Xperia...for me xperia has the best optimal volume output, but...I just downloaded MX player which plays absolutely everything music or video, and set settings to boost output volume up to 100% through it's S/W decoder...and now headphones are even too loud.
For perfect photos just upgraded firmware, if not used the multiple focus option and alike in settings.

Me prefer xperias UI which lets you actually install apps that you like, or need...without mem consuming not needed apps...

so off you go with this review, but try to use real sense...;)

Galaxy S5 is best...becus design of both z2 and s5 is littlebit same acc to their last flagship...but the camera, sound, display of s5 is much better than xperria z2..,,and the other features like ultra power saving...heart rate;;, fingerprint sensor are awsum in s5...i think when i spent 40k + money on any product i wouldnt want only a good looking ph.,,i want a ph.with new innovations

Z2 has micro SD up to 128 gigThank you bro, I might not read it ... but it is only 16gb internal memory, and I have a bad experience with a phone having 16gb, my next one is must be 32gb. because so many applications I used (not games) and I need a minimum 32 internal memory.
is the Z2 comes with 16 and 32? I guess not

Z2 does have sd slot. However technically as you have said the S5 is the overall "preferences aside best. But Z2 follows very closely and has its own advantages.
Overall I think M8 and G3 are more minor updates but still great comparable devices with their own advantages as well.

They are all great and will all satisfy most. It will depend what you are looking for mostly.

S5 is best overall. In camera, display, ergonomics, comfort, overall durability, and such. Has water protection and USB 3.0. Sadly only 2gb ram. Which is still great, but no excuse for not using 3gb.

But M8 is best for speakers and headphones. Though some uses have reported liking S5 better for vocals through headphones. That might not be accurate. Also aluminum and supposed to have great microphone for recording. But they kept the 4up camera which should have at least bumped to 8up. Especially with the tiny battery bump and same thickness.

Z2 has 3gb ram no matter what version. Great display though bottom two of the four for sunlight. Water protection. Best battery of all and a great camera with possibly best night shots. Also has great stereo speakers. Weakest in headphone volume. Glass build of course and almost as thin as the S5. But more edgy/less rounded than the rest.

G3 has a very crisp QHD screen, but is now a phablet by technicality. Minimal bezels. Downside like M8 is they retained the same large thickness as last year models. And same battery. Weakest battery. However it did gain removable battery. And has one of the most accurate color balance in photos. Also does great in low light.

Hey all, this is me again, to be honest, I was waiting for the review and testing results of the LG G3, because I was thinking of it seriously, because I thought it will be better than the S5, I am an S4 user I loved Samsung. But then when I compare the LG G3 with these figures here, I was disappointed a bit, because of the Battery, Then I was like to go either for S5 or the Z2, once I know that Sony is coming without microSD card support, I heat it. then I finalize my comparison and research as well as reading reiviews it is better to stay with Samsung and get the S5 or wait for the Note4.
Sony weakness point: No MicroSD card (extra storage support)
LG weakness point: Battery is not powerful comparing to the Samsung S5.
With respect to all arguments here, personally I believe the S5 still the winner.

                              Regards,
                              Nasser

I have the Sony Xperia Z. I have it for over a year, and I still love it. There are annoying faults with it... the sound is not very loud, it gets very hot (43.5C) after using it for a relatively short time, and I think its battery life is not what it should be. Apart from those niggles, I won't replace it with any other, as it still functions beautifully. The phone is so fabulously designed and presented, a real work of art. I hate having it in a leather wallet, that's not removable, because, if it was, I would be constantly undressing it to admire its naked beauty! Some members of my family own Samsungs, S3 & S4, I constantly rib them by comparing phones and cars. Nissan Skyline to Kia C'eed!
