Firefox OS review: Burning bright

30 July 2014
The mobile Firefox OS by Mozilla aims to put the user first, like its namesake web browser, and deliver affordable, capable, open-source phones to the masses. "We’re out to make a difference, not a profit", says the project's homepage...

IF Firefox focus on "Privacy & Security" they'll have a winner; if not, it will be "just another" ho hum OS. I Want a mobile OS that is safe and secure AND private. IF you can effectively do that from get go and don't screw up with vulnerabilities and holes in the OS it will fail. Good luck!

I'm still very angry about my ZTE Open and the bad support of ZTE.

Still no fix for the barely functioning touchscreen? What about the WiFi drops? No? Bootloops only fixable with original ZTE Image they removed from their server?

And i'm still very angry about the frustrating days when i tried the FFOS devtools.

                No thanks.

You saying leave the giant corporations alone, let them have monopolies in mobile OS? Why do you love Microsoft, Apple and Google that much, are you worried they arent making enough billions in profit, they need your help to make even more?

Screw the billion dollar companies, we need a real open source mobile OS and this is it i think (not Firefox OS but its building blocks, best known as Boot2Gecko)

firefox browser is so poor, lately they just add feature to bookmark sync which chrome have implemented it years ago. And other feature like integrated flash player, etc firefox is so much left behind from google.
judging from the browser, maybe it's also reflect in their OS

Looks pretty smooth for me, or at least smoother than most of android phones at that price.

another os is a bad move. Make the actual oses to yun correctly, stable and fast. Without making new ones....too much fragmentation and waste of resources.

This is a good start, hope to see a lot more in a year. Competition is great :)

AnonD-237024, 30 Jul 2014Not the best OS, but sounds good.Better start as compared to Windows phone OS. at least Mozilla put all basic features into the OS unlike Microsoft, they are adding basic features one by one and naming it updates after selling a few billion devices... Lol Windows phone users including me still begging for WiFi direct and USB OTG in Microsoft Suggestion pages... And most of the people not using Developer preview 8.1 is still waiting for getting Notification centre, Quick toggles, file manager etc... Microsoft people learn something from Mozilla guys

This is like ANdroid 2.0 folks. They still got lots to do folks, but I think they can pull it off for the dirt cheap phones they are providing.
