"disappointing 4MP Ultrapixel camera"
The only thing HTC needs to do is create an 8MP ultrapixel camera. Or use a 20MP standard camera and down-sample the image (in software or using a dedicated HW-component like Nokia did with the 808PV). Why is that so hard? Every image processing program can downscale images. And every DTP-operator knows that down-scaling thus anti-aliasing can improve a not-so-good image.
Then that M8 WILL sell MUCH better. But because HTC stubornly hold on to that 4MP camera their loosing market.
Unless HTC's engineers are incompetent to produce anything better on their own.
I reckon the CEO's of all these stupid companies should read websites and forums like these a bit more to really know how people perceive their products. But as usual greed and incompetence are the deciding factor.
And if you don't have the knowledge or competence to develop it all yourself buy components from people who have the competence. BUY these Nokia/Toshiba sensors, sure PAY that license fee, buy these ZEISS lensens etc...

I wish they added matte on the back instead of glossy...and HTC PURPOSELY made the camera worse so that the HTC M8 Brother could have all the glory...

Why your reviews focused only on apps and other external features? You should also review telecom features for example LTE. What frequency band is it covered and does the listed mbps speed achievable on this phone?

Benchmarks are one thing but in real life nothing beats m8 for performance snappinesss as per my experience. I think the reviewer puts too much of an emphasis on benchmarks and that results in an unfair view. I also think camera is about the only area where m8 gets beaten but still that ultrapixel camera is not entirely useless. In e8 case I agree that camera quality is a surprise, but I think ommission of USB otg is far more serous and I believe only gsmarena pointed this out

dear god they relented to the higher mega pix people. my M8 ultra pixel takes better pictures than any other phone its gone up against. there SO much more to a camera than the MP. jesus folks go learn this stuff. the only thing wrong with the M8 was the crappy lens that scratches to uselessness in a couple of months. i wonder does this one have it too? either way now i wouldnt buy and HTC. its a shame.

Really disappointed with the camera. My htc one s 8mp camera is better than htc one e8 13mp camera. Really really disappointed. U lost a customer htc.

Always-on face detection, wut?? Thats totally gonna ruin lots of photos, for example if you take photos in the city or at a beach or someting and all the random people around will decide your exposure? Lol, HTC is HTC, the whole company is as crazy as Peter Chou.
And whats with this review, we want to take pics of random background/foreground people? No we do not but they are still there and you cant get rid of them, a camera that gives them priority over your real motive is of course defective by design. Even if the people are not strangers you dont always want them to be the center of attention, like your kids in front of a landmark or your girlfriend standing beside a Ferrari. Ok so dont give the E8 minus for this, i agree, because this would be no less than a dealbreaker.
