IFA 2014: Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, E3, and wearables hands-on

3 September 2014
This year's IFA in Berlin marks one of the largest product announcements by Sony in one go. Alongside the anticipated Z3 flagship, the company unveiled the Z3 Compact, the next generation of the mini that ruled last season...

I have Xperia Z3 dual for 11 months now.
Chapter 1:
- After like 4 months the screen was separated from the body from above and at the begging they refused to fix it claiming that it's a miss use because (I PUT THE MOBILE IN MY POCKET) and because it's thin so it was pended. after escalation and due to the great manager of the branch of Al khobar KSA they fix it to me.
Chapter 2:
After like 7 month my niece dropped it from hight of 30 cm so the screen was shattered like it was felt from the 10th floor.
anyway I had to pay about 250$ !!!! to fix it and this price after the discount !!!!!
Chapter 3:
now after 11 months it begins suddenly to show some reddish stains on the left part of the screen right below the charging socket and i don't know really what should i do this time because really i'm so MAD from this mobile.
IT'S THE MOST FRAGILE AND THE WORST MOBILE THAT I HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

I am a committed Sony fan because their products are always way above medium and towards the higher end with specifications and innovations! The same for their Tvs and Vaio pcs. I just bought a Sony Z ultra for the largest size screen available without being a tablet size phone. Like many other people I bought it when the price came down from the full price. I would have liked the Z2 spec more, but the bigger screen allows me to use it without glasses, and as I travel a lot, now I can give away my 10.1" Samsung tablet. I wont buy another samsung cos its just too common made for the average masses.
keep up the good research Sony, you alone can give Apple some quality competition.

I moved from iphone to Samsung . Then samsung gave me a bad experience . So I switched to Sony . The first I bought were sony z ultra . Tbh , its not that good. Then a month later I bought a z1 after friend recommendation . Its awesome . So when z2 release , I got my hand on it . Its not a good phone as the side cover is too long . Whenever I pull out from my pocket , it will opened itself. So unless z3 side covers problems were not same then z2 . Then i'll give it a try . As im a phone maniac , bought all famous phones and tablets just to update myself.*_*

my old xperia z was a failure, i remember me going for it from my s3 and it was the worse decision i made, the xperia z screen is not much of quality, it had a gorilla glass but the thing started getting scratches really easily, it was the same for the back side of the phone. the stock alike android experience was not that good. plus they were not taking any advantage of the sensors available in those xperia models. for example they can add flip to mute feature easily like samsung or htc but they are too bored to do it. pretty much all of there xperia range models follows the same foot prints. the external speaker sounds were really low due to water proof seals i guess. if i'm in the car if i'm using the speaker phone it will still be useless because i had to keep the phone closer to hear what the other person is saying. never going back to xperia ever again. i'm now depending on htc and samsung only. if sony developed phones with better quality and better android experience they would have became better than this. they really need to stop being such boring people. :(

So happy to hear of the release of the Z3. Looks lovely.
Here are 2 facts about Sony Smartphones by a long time Sony and Sony Ericsson user who even tried a Samsung for 3 weeks once then came swiftly back to Sony.
They release a new flagship phone every 6 months or so and their software updates for older devices, like the Z1 and Z (both excellent examples of hardware and design), are riddled with problems that cause fast battery drain, increased charging times, high running temperatures, camera faults, etc.
Anybody see a possible connection there?
Before anybody says 'Well why do you keep buying them then?'. It's because I know how best to buy and maintain them, I think.
I read the support forums about the effects their updates have had on other people's phones and I never update them. I also wait til the release of a new one drops the price of it's predecessors on eBay, buy one of them and I never buy one that's had the software updated from the original version (the version from when they wanted you to think that your new phone was good, that is).
I'll be able to start searching for a nice Z2 soon, so that'll be nice :-).
(Just for the record, by the way: Samsungs, their interface and hardware design, I find very childish and immature. Their system for manually setting up APN's is appalling, a poor attempt at being idiot-proof. Between that, their inclusion of an Apple-aping physical 'Home' button and insistence on keeping the 'Menu' button, it's as if they've been designed to be used by children).

                                    Re: Z3 Compact

Larger Screen to 4.6" in a Compact is nice .

Screen Resolution is fine for this size-higher Res will shorten Battery life .

Camera- too early to say but these Images do not look sharp like Alpha . I can see why reviewer has mixed feelings about Sensor.

No plastic Coating on Screen and Stereo Speakers- good ESPECIALLY if volume increased.

Large Battery-good , prefer removable Battery though.

                                    Thinness, Weight- Who Cares ?
                                    We need PERFORMANCE, AND DURABILITY.
THINNESS AND SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT ARE THE TWO DUMBEST SPECS, CAUSING COMPROMISES IN EVERY OTHER PERFORMANCE CATEGORY.

Looks like an excellent Phone, I still think the
Camera has problems-I hope I am wrong.

IF there is an Alpha Pro with bigger Battery and SD Card, that may win the Compact Race for me.

If not, the Z3 Compact looks like the winner.

IF they figure out how to get MORE from this Camera Sensor ( SONY ?! should) this will be a formidable Device and may be even as is.

                                    Nice work Sony.

Samsung- FORGET "THINNESS" - make Alpha Pro with Big Battery, SD Card, OIS Camera.

The IPhone 6 is about 5.5 " Tall , not really a Compact Device.

SD Card is safer for back up storage than Online Storage.

                                    Online Storage = Hacked

To COMPETE with Iphone 6 - SURPASS IT, DON'T IMITATE IT'S LIMITATIONS.

I have owned the sony z, z1, and z2. I happen to work for a large telco in Australia too. On paper these phones look excellent! However, I have found (dealing with a large quantity of them) is that the build quality is terrible and it's only matched by the unreliability of the rom. Not to mention the amount of bloatware.
The xperia z battery drains like no tomorrow after one of the firmware updates after being sent away for warranty because it wasn't receiving sms.
The z1 if it gets too cold (maybe 12 degrees Celsius ) the phone touch sensitivity won't work and makes it impossible from writing a text.
The Z2 has a gap at the top of the screen making it no longer waterproof... I learnt this the hard way. However it came down to a manufacturing fault that is well known.

So do i doubt this phone this review and the quality of the upcoming phone absolutely!!!!
