Apple iPad Air 2 review: His Airness

17 November 2014
Another millimeter thinner, the new iPad Air 2 has a body that’s even more befitting the ethereal moniker the iPad bears second year in a row. Outside of that little fact however, the changes may not be as easy to spot. And that’s hardly a surprise. Apple’s...

Notice how the Macbooks have ports to transfer files? Then your argument for "security" issues is not valid. iOS was designed and locked to iTunes for Apple to profit from. Restrictions are there so that the easiest thing to do is to buy media to download. You have to do some acrobatic modifications so you can hack torrent downloading the last time I checked. That's why I'm reminded not to buy iOS devices anymore.

LOL at everyone arguing about the performance. Apple cheats all their benchmarks. It's a closed source OS what do people expect. With android you can detect cheating because its open source the code can be looked at, with IOS they do what they want. Making their benchmarks look good is part of their marketing strategy.

AnonD-314503, 18 Nov 2014How can you use mapping and navigation outdoor without inte... moreSorry, i was thinking about android where you can actually save google, microsoft, topo maps etc to your tablet for offline use.

No USB OTG or file explorer for SECURITY PURPOSES... that is the funniest excuse i have heard for a while.... it didn't help the recent iCloud nude photo leaks much.

Split screen will come to iOS in the next few years... then i guess it will be an awesome "new" feature.

USB OTG and file explorer absence is just fine due to security purposes since system files secured and inaccessible. Split screes could just be compensated with unprecedented speed of iPad such as webpage rendering and game fluidity, etc. No, now most apps in play store is still a stretched mobile version and not "optimized" with every screen size.

AnonD-314503, 17 Nov 2014Seriously how often and what apps do you use that needs GPS... moreI know a lot of people who use tablets for mapping and navigation. A device this expensive should include GPS as standard in all models. Even messaging and camera apps use GPS.

Yes, iOS is very limited. No split screen, file explorer or USB OTG. These are a few productivity features that all tablets/iPads should have.

Optimized tablet apps were a problem with android 12-18 months ago. Now that android has 85% of the global market share this is mostly a thing of the past.

Wow, it only took them 4 years to finally admit it's an oversized iphone.
But hey, at least apple proved that nvidia and it's sucky tegra soc are nothing to write home about.
It brought a tear to my eye when I saw it decimated crapvidia in it's own backyard, GPU slaughter, rofl.

Thats the thing for me.

Ipad has really bad , eida players; for note taking, well due to Wacom digitizer here Sammy apps plays alone; browsers, I like ones with minimal interfaces yet great gesture support, again not many answers from ipad. There are better news browsing, social networking and gaming apps, but apart from news browsers everything else leave me uninterested.

iPad is great for very specific uses, I'm just kinda disappointed that it has not expanded on those for 4 years now (I.e. it's the same thing, just faster).

If all you do is those 2-3 uses that iPad is built for, all the more power to you. I'm just saying that it is not a real tablet (I.e. something between a mobile, and a laptop), it's more like a scaled up mobile.

If those are your primary uses then a 5.5 inch phone is more portable and can do those almost equally well. As far as usability goes laptops do not even compare to a tablet. If i want real work done I use my desktop, for everything else my tablet. So yeah multitasking is kind of a big guy for me. Everything I use an iPad I feel like I returned to 80s usability wise (I often keep notes, have a video playing in the background, etc...)

But the OS is last decade'... moreNo serious multitasking just doesnt matter in my opinion since hard core multitasking I believe is reserved for desktops and notebooks since iPad is not made for productivity and office works (yet it has one of the most powerful office apps, the iWors and iLife for multimedia) but for multimedia usage. What do you mean in minimal external hardware support? As far as mobile accessory goes, iOS device has the widest array of mobile accessory in the market. Pen? It supports capacitive pen for your info sans the pressure sensitivity (ok your sammy tab has that, congrats!)
