Galaxy S6 edge vs. Galaxy Note Edge: A camera shootout

7 March 2015
We had the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge with us for a short time so we took a stroll though Barcelona with a Galaxy Note Edge also in our pocket for an impromptu shootout. We took some photos and videos and hurried back to HQ to compare them...

Jon (Swe), 09 Mar 2015Keep in mind that Google is mostly to blame for the removal... moreNot falling victim to these things was one of the best parts of Galaxy/Touchwiz.

Samsung re-enabled app data to sd and had full function of SD. Most others at least had full communication with SD. Sadly some could only read files off it.

And just because Google is doing this does not give a good reason to take the features away and OTG is not an excuse.

Honestly S6 looks more and more like a turkey when compared to edge. It has less battery, worse camera , it's bigger (worse screen to body ratio), it's decidedly less cool to hold and actually has no good reason for the non removable battery (edge has, its unconventional shape).

My only problem is that the S6 was released at all, it takes the light away from edge and S6 is a turkey. "Close Samsung, close but still you managed to fail".

Keep in mind that Google is mostly to blame for the removal of the micro SD slot. Due to google, a lot of apps can't be moved. And many apps dont let you define that you want to save the DATA to the micro SD, instead of filling up your intenral memory.
And that is due to the way google decided to drop support for those features.

But then you also have the downside that the micro SD slot, and certainly your cheap card will be much slower than internal memory, and thus affecting how fast the phone will feel, or rather how slow it will be due to memory card read speeds.
And they people go arund talking about lag.

Also, if you can save app data to memory card, you will loose that, if you switch, cards, which some claim that they do. Many apps will not find the data again when you insert the sd card that it was saved to. So switching cards is a fake argument, cause you cant do that, unless you save all your data on to the internal memory anyway.

When people mention USB-otg, those crying out for micro SD slots, dont seem to get in to their head, that you use USB otg temporarily, to transfer files on to you internal memory, or to backup, or offload your internal memory. You dont walk around with anything in your USB port.
Also keep in mind that for those that also complain about the fact that you dont have use replaceble battery, that connecting your device to a computer to change content on that micro SD card, will also charge your battery, and thus having an impact on the charge cycles you can get out of your device. To spare your battery, you should remove the card and put in to a reader, but then all of a sudden it is no more pratical than using a flash-drive.

AnonD-316708, 08 Mar 2015because no one forced you to. mid range phone is suit you better. You seem to be like a Sammy brainwashed fanboy like ifanboys. When he said speed does not matter, it was about the few milli seconds difference between SD card slot and UFS memory.

            Consider the 2 scenarios.

            i) S6 with SD card slot
            Vs
            ii)S6 without SD card slot.

How much of a speed improvement that the current version (without SD card slot) will have Vs an imaginery version with SD card slot? Few milliseconds? Is it worth enough to sacrifice the expansion option which is critical for many android users? I know, ifans do not have a choice here, so don't bring the idevice here. If indeed samsung belives taking away SD card slot will bring in ifanboys, they are living in an imaginery world which does not exist. They will come down to real world very soon.

I can understand all the people getting upset about the SD Card, not so much about the battery, because that feature was the rock between plastic and a renovated premium design.
I will definitely go for the S6 Edge Esmerald, my SGS3 finally died yesterday and it coudn´t be a better moment for that :). Personally in 3 years with the S3 i never used the SD slot or change the battery once, and till 1 month the phone was doing very nice (of course batery was down but i will expect this from every phone after 3 years, except maybe from the iphone)

You will notice it immediatly on a daily use, while opening and closing apps, switching apps, browsing. With a lighter Touchwizz and Samsung new memory UFS 2.0 and DDR4 woul make the S6 a snappier phones than the S5 and Note4. With a better camera, a premium feel and faster presentation, the S6 should sell very well.

It's chinise companies who did and they are the ones who Samsung needs to compete with. Nowadays phones are getting more and more powerful and less people need a flagship anyway, so they are looking for something practical for reasonable amount of money (700euro for a phone is far from reasonable). And that's where Samsung totally sucks.

People were also bashing them about bad speakers (Or even bad audio from the headphones when it comes to cheaper models), not good enough batteries and of course BLOATWARE. They chosed to ignore all of the REASONABLE complaints and instead decided to put all their efforts into (crappy, "premium") design, neglecting even more things they weren't good enough (For reasonable buyers and not fan-boys).
