Sony Xperia E4g review: Smaller but better

21 April, 2015
Sony's affordable E-series has definitely come a long way and with its current fourth generation. The company is really going to great lengths to deliver abundant functionality and usability at a modest price tag.

if nfc, screen mirroring and led flash of e4g are gimmicks,u should design a even more barebone mobile than moto e2.writing in capitals pertains emphasis not shouting since u moto fanboys seem to absurdly defend even lack of a LED FLASH,LOL

Besides, why are you quoting the data of the moto g2? We're talking about e2 vs e4g here. And there is no GSMarena review on the e2 one yet.

Tip: writing in caps make you sound like you're shouting, and certainly doesn't help making your point.

Why are major phone manufacturers (like Sony) still releasing new hardware running KitKat ?

Are they too scared of getting Lollipop right ?

What crap about mediatek? Both the e4g and moto e2 have about the same specs. And since you seem to have no idea about h264 10bit and HEVC - a GPU won't help you with decoding those. It's pure software decoding until you get chips like snapdragon 615 that have hardware decoding for HEVC at least, but no h264 10-bit decoding there either.

I don't need either dlna or a hires front camera. How do you know Moto E2 doesn't have otg? Have you tried it?

NFC is very much a gimmick. To have a "one-touch" connect you still have to turn your speaker or headset on. When I have my bluetooth headset paired, it gets connected as soon as I turn on bluetooth. So it's either turn on bluetooth on phone or touch the phone with the headset - as I said, a gimmick.

I already told you battery life is relative. If you somehow got 13 days of battery out of your M2 (which I doubt in the first place) you probably just let it idle with everything disabled. That can't be called "usage".

And then there is the firmware. I've had so many sony updates ruin audio playback it's not even funny. Same headset plays fine with a moto G, a moto E2 and a Nexus 7 (2012) while it suddenly had audio dropouts on two M2 and two Z1C after updating to the newest firwmare at that time (but the original firmware it shipped with was fine). So not only do they fail at tuning their camera post-processing, they also fail at quality control.

Low battery life may be due to buggy software, i have seen e4g score as high as 32000 in antutu benchmark but it just scored 22000 in the review, so it makes me think that it may not be the final software

2nd-e4g supports otg.go checck sony global website and white paper of e4g.

and regarding moto e2-it has a screen that has low brightness than e4g,has poor graphic processor and cpu than e4g,doesnt have a camera flash and has a lower cap battery than e4g..

Soukyuu, 22 Apr 2015All depends on the usage. I have a 6 day battery on my moto... moreno we are not talking about gimmicks too.screen mirroring is not used only when sreaming videos, photos, music wirelessly to another tablet or tv..so that wont eat up any cpu usage when u are not mirroring anything.

and stop the crap abbout mediatek.it is a acclaimed taiwanese company-htc one m9+uses mediatek.

and the cpu and gpu of e4g beat the hell out of adreno 306 in every benchmark.gpu of e4g can process at a speed almost double that of moto e2.

                        e4g supports otg,dlna,has a front 2mp camera.

nfc is not a gimmick.its a simple and effective one touch connection mode to compatible phones,speakers,tv....no hassle anymore..tap e4g to a nfc device...voila..conneccted.
its yechnology seeping to entry level phones.

and sony phones have the best battery life.i have managed to juice out 13 days out of my m2

What bad about Xperia e3.it has also lte.in India even 3g is still so rare and expensive so 4g is easily far from people due to it's eye tearing price.
How gsmarena, how is better than e3.it doesn't has otg,gpu is also poor comparison than e3.really adenosine 305 is becoming rare these days.there is aderno 306 but still not properly usable.because still about 95per.apps in 32 bit version.
Now look sound quality.it's again e3 champ here.u can easily see sound ratings tested by gsmarena.
I'm so lucky that I got e3,because I think Sony may discontinue it's manufacturering any time.

Anonymous, 22 Apr 2015moto e2 doesnt have a 2day battery man.moto e2 doesnt have ... moreAll depends on the usage. I have a 6 day battery on my moto e2. I had a 4 day battery on my M2 with the same usage. So saying it doesn't have a 2 day usage doesn't tell me much.

What do you need NFC for? And I'm talking about real usage here, and not some gimmicks. Screen mirroring is not really that useful for me, but that's a matter of opinion. With the specs it has, it will have troubles decoding HD h264 10-bit streams anyway, not to mention HEVC. Screen mirrroring would take away some more processing speed unless a dedicated chipset is responsible for that, which I doubt, this being a budget device.

A flash is missing, that's right. But no flash is going to make your pictures better on a budget phone. And sony screwed up the camera post-processing on this one again, so I'd rather go with the moto e2 without flash.

Going for a Sony phone because of the camera is not a good move. Their sensors might be good, but they fail at tuning them. Just compare the images of Samsung S6 and any of the current Sony flagships - the difference should be obvious if you care about quality. And both use Sony camera sensors.
