Microsoft Lumia 640 review: Outgrowing the mold

18 May 2015
Low-end Lumias dominate the Windows Phone market but aren't prestigious. To fix this, Microsoft crafted the Lumia 640 Trojan horse - a capable mid-ranger hiding behind an undeservedly low model number. It comes with pick-and-choose LTE...

I am going to date another review about my experience about the Lumia 640 after having used it during these months, but I am not going to refer to it due to the operating system (end of 2019 support), the applications, the sound, the quality of the screen, call.

I mean the design. These devices are called from the outset, I'm not sure if the entire Lumia line designed by Microsoft. A design thought to penetrate mostly minority markets.

I mean the design, a design thought according to my experience to use it just enough without abusing it to a great extent because of its not light weight. The on / off keys and volume keys included in the lid are built to last. When removing the cover with various colors like other Lumia models to see the battery, the quality of the plastic material accompanied with metal parts reminds me of the dashboards of premium cars, when the years go by they do not make noise due to vibrations. The pushbuttons on the keys are hard too, designed to last. The hole for the headphone jack connector is designed so that the body of the jack connector does not lose quality in the rings, due to the small groove in the cover, as well as the connection input of the UBS connector.

In the lid there is a small sound outlet hole that when you cover it with your finger, the powerful sound is attenuated to the maximum but is partly heard by how that area of the lumia 640 is designed.

It is a mobile device with many hidden design features.

        Hi.

Years ago I wanted to buy the Lumia 640 LTE, for having the Windows operating system and that is not an iPhone, now that I have been able to acquire it on top of this, after so long it has stopped updating, although some basic packages continue to be updated, this is important. Upgrading to Windows 10 for having finished the update service, but this did not stop me, also its colorful casings make it attractive.

By not having the update and staying in Windows 8.1 also without an update service, go ..., I came in handy to have a phone with the necessary applications, the ones that come pre-installed, maps, driving, radio, SMS, calls, browser, calculator , contacts, gps, news, photos ..., in addition to being able to insert a memory card to watch videos and listen to music in the multimedia player and fill it with photographs, insert a sim card so I need more.

Although I have deleted a couple of applications that later in the end if I need them, and since I cannot install them from the store, it is an inconvenience, but the same is from the application as from the browser. For me, after having used it to receive the occasional call and SMS, it turns out that it could be like a low-performance mobile phone with first-rate features increased by its 1 Gb Ram and an interesting processor. Very useful to watch streaming at 4G speed changeable to 3G
WIFI, as you like and have a lot of tabs open in the browser.

At first I had another idea of how I could use this smartphone as an extension to manage the operating system, ways to surf the net, but I saw that it cannot be done due to Windows licenses.

The 2500 mAh battery has lasted me up to 5 days without much jogging, knowing that it cannot give more, could it offer something more?

Used Microsoft 640 LTE for many days almost 3yrs. I am happy with this phone. It is highly secured phone. No body can access your phone because they cant understand Miocrosoft Operating system so easily as android. Useless apps you will not get in stores. Only paid apps u will get with good security.

Used this phone for a long time now , never had a problem performs really well, The only negative is that windows will soon no longer support what is in my opinion a very good phone, It is a pity because nokia who built the phone are known for quality. Some of the apps are designed for more modern phones shame that microsoft are giving up on their phones,'' now i will have to buy some other make, This phone sync's well with my laptop.. All i can say is this could have been even better if they had made just a few improvements to their lumia range...

Used to be a very nice phone...
2 years later: crippled by poorly validated OS & SW changes, and a deserted ecosystem

Still very happy with the screen and battery life in particular, but minor hindrances adding up over time to become major turn-off e.g.:
                  - taking an HDR picture hangs the camera app since an app update ~9 months ago
                  - Bluetooth headphones connection fails every ~5 times since last OS update, has to be manually restored
                  - can't sync music anymore with Win 7 by USB since last OS update

Basically, now every OS or app update feels like a function-threatening gamble, except that you can't really opt-out or roll back.

AnonD-57513, 29 Jul 2016i recently updated to w 10 but my mobile was charging upto ... moretry reset the battery to zero.
                      1. drain your battery by using the cell phone till it shut down
                      2. press power on and try to let cellphone turn on with battery low untill it can't shown the welcome logo. (this way will completely drain out the battery)
                      3. take out your battery and wait 50s then put it back
                      4. plug in the charger and let is start to charge(don't use the phone while charging) and wait it charges to 100%
                      5. when the phone is fully charged. plug out the charger for 1m and plug back in to make sure the phone is really fully charged.
                      6. the battery reset have done. hope to solve your problem

A pretty, nippy and reliable phone with great battery life and a nice screen. The Windows Interface is great, once you get used to it, as all you need ist just a touch away on the front screen. Cortana is buggy, though and does not work properly on my phone (German language). Sadly, switching back to Android because of App issues - the apps I am used to, like navigation, DB Navigator, Amazon, eBay just lack the functionality of their Android counterparts.

God-awful phone, unintuitive UI, no apps of any interest - the fact that Amazon, biggest online retailer in the world, has just stopped supporting the windows mobile app says it all! Phone lags terribly and the pitiful amount of ram struggles with any html-based web pages. Apps crash and close without warning and then there's the 'colour changing screen' bug which shows just how poor the software is. Nice looking phone maybe, but it has nothing under the hood to worry other manufacturers. Cant wait to get a 2016 J5 from Samsung and banish this p.o.s to the bottom of the draw where it belongs!
