Moto G (3rd gen) review: Good as gold

06 August, 2015
It is hardly a surprise that the third generation Motorola Moto G is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2015. After all, in less than two years after the first iteration of the smartphone (Moto G became the most successful phone in the company’s history) made its debut, the Moto G product family has successfully redefined what a budget Android handset should look, feel, and perform like and how much it should cost.

Anonymous, 02 Sep 2015M still confusd.... hw is d camera?? Nd battery life?? Does... moreSome problem areas I observed in my 5 days of usage I'd like to bring out for benefit of prospective buyers:-

      1. Customising the ring tone isn't an option in this handset and pre fed ones are pretty ordinary.

      2. One can't set the volume of Call Ringing and Notification independently, thus forcing the msg and Whatsapp notification muted.

      3. Since the top and bottom of the mobile looks almost the same, you tend to pick the phone wrong side up sometimes. Though an ordinary issue, but I found it irritating.

      4. One major problem is that the back cover of the handset is curved. It is very handy to use over your palm but becomes impossible to use over flat tabletop surfaces.

05th of September my much avaited Moto 3G was delivered by Flipkart. I'd carried out intensive study of the product online, and I found gsmarena was great place to stay informed.

I was using a Samsung Galaxy Duos (launched during IPL 2013) for two and half years and but for the very frequent hanging problem, my Samsung is still working fine. But the hanging specially during driving with GPS forced me to look for change.

Having said that, at the outset it would be prudent to mention that at half the price, Moto 3G is a steal vis a vis Samsung, feature for feature.

The most impressive quality which attracted me to this handset is the water resistant feature, so very important in my profession.

All the claimed features by the handset I've found generally meeting the standards, from speed to display to battery life to camera quality. The direct launch of Flash light and Camera from locked screen just by shakes is an excellent idea and very useful.

The much talked about heating problem I found over hyped. It was quite normal I thought. Even my gpsessential App gave comparable figures like that of Samsung.

Some problem areas I observed in my 5 days of usage I'd like to bring out for benefit of prospective buyers:-

              5. The sound quality (not of calls) is a little disappointing.

Overall I found it good value for money so far. But definitely, it's limits would be put to ultimate test when my 9yrs old daughter downloads and plays games over it when I meet her next month.

Any other queries if someone has, I'd be glad to check and inform. Also I would request if someone (IT people) using this phone, works out a solution for customising ring tone, pl post it here. Would be thankful.
