Apple iPhone 6s Plus review: The bigger picture

5 October, 2015
The big question for the big one. Even more iPhone goodness in a single package or a phone for the fence-sitters? To loosely quote Apple itself, bigger isn’t necessarily better. So, a niche product or the real deal?

Apple has been using sony camera modules in all it's devices so far, also the iPhone 6s uses a 12 Mpixel Sony sensor that is not better or worse than other cameras in Android phones. Hardwaare technology is the same. Sony is the biggest sensor vendor in the world, also Nikon uses Sony sensor in it's DSLRs. And Megapixels do not say anything about picture quality.

Want an awesome camera? Buy an awesome camera, else this phone Cam is among the best in any case. For the first time in a very long time other OEM's get to share the spotlight, in a year the 12mp shooter will go through the Apple refinements and reclaim the throne next year. Like all you guys are crying about is the camera. geez, how many of you actually make money off your pics in any case?

nice try apple, awe inspiring on the performance charts but still light years behind even the galaxy note 4. all that power without any real purpose. sammy is the one paving the way and still, do it shows on thier 14nm finfet that makes apple iphones so impresive and efficient.but they mastered soc design exynoss is powerful enough to power a screen way more bigger and even power the gear vr interface since the note 4. so sammy still leading and by a mile if not two. chears mates

Now I really can't wait to get my iPhone 6S+ next week.

While opinions differ, most other sites rank the iPhone camera on par with the best currently (the Note 5 and S6, and the LG).

Your writer seems to be less enthused, but when looking at the images here, I personally like the night shots from the iPhone better than the Edge+. The Edge blasts out the highlights and the detail is smudged in both shots, probably due to over-processing combined with less robust OIS.

Even the daylight images appear to have more balanced tonality on the iPhone.

Having said that, I have the Note 5 and love the camera, so I will keep it. I had the smaller S6 Edge before and disliked its ergonomics, plus it got really hot and lagged from time to time. The Note 5 so far has not had these problems.

They are all good phones but the new iPhone is still the best balanced and best designed, in my opinion.

AnonD-1825, 06 Oct 2015"then there's the already dated camera at 12Mpx, it's so ye... moreThere is something that you clearly don't know about or simply are just ignoring in defence of Apple.

If you look at the camera on the Galaxy S6 edge+ that i also have, then you will see that the details in the pictures the Galaxy S6 edge+ gives are much more detailed than the pictures the iPhone 6S Plus gives out.

Have a look at this to see the proof of that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_1Bgfl6qvk

In one of the pictures taken there you will see that the text on the sign on the road picture there, you can't see the text on the picture from the iPhone 6S Plus while you can easily see the text on the sign that the Galaxy S6 edge+ have taken.

Why do you think it's like that?

There are 4 options for that answer.

            1. The megapixels does actually matters as you can get more megapixels in the pictures that gives more room for seeing more details when you zoom them to 100%. Which means that the iPhone 6S Plus fails to do what the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ manages to do really well.

            2. The optic used in the Sony camera in the Galaxy S6 edge+ is amazing as it manages to take better pictures over the iPhone 6S Plus with a higher megapixel count.

            3. The iPhone 6S Plus uses a crappy optic that doesn't manages to capture good amount of details.

            4. The megapixel count on the iPhone 6S Plus is still to low to be able to compete with the other Android flagships when it comes to details in the pictures.

My question here is. What number from 1 to 4 would you choose here?

I'm pretty sure on what you are going to say here. And i'm pretty darn sure that you are fully aware that when the Galaxy S6 edge+ can both use 16 megapixels and still keep some amazing deatils in the pictures, you know the argument that the iPhone 6S Plus doesn't need more than 12 megapixels doesn't hold water.

If Samsung can make such amazing cameras even with high megapixel counts, then Apple for sure can do the same. There is no excuse.

Oh no, another brainwashed guy. You guys make yourself look so stupid with comments like these, maybe its time learn something more than just comparing numbers? Would you have liked if Apple would have made 100mpx cam, would have it been best cam ever?

Maybe you didnt see how Apple with dual core completely destroys everything else in the market, is the SoC really from year 2012 or is it actually proof of newest 2015 chip tech, but it can't be because it only has two cores, right?

Same applies to camera, htc m9 has 20mpx camera and the quality is horrible because they didnt solve the problems which happening when adding more mpx.

Apple did that with 6s, or sony or both. by the way where you need 16mpx cam? Even my Canon DSLR have "only" 12mpx. And it's more than enough.

The things that stop me buying an iPhone are the complete lack of flexibility when it comes to things like file transfers via Bluetooth, I can swap files (pictures/music/ringtones etc) between my phone & my colleagues phones with ease, yet if I want to send any of the above to an iPhone I can't, I have to email it or link it to a PC/Mac and do it via iTunes which is inconvenient to say the least.

Then there's the small memory as well, I wouldn't even consider anything less than 32Gb base level and it must have expansion capabilities too, then there's the already dated camera at 12Mpx, it's so yesterday when the standard is now around the 16Mpx upwards! Sorry Apple, you've got to start putting these features into your phone's otherwise you're just going to get left further & further behind.

Another great overall phone by the Apple guys! Surprised the S6 is still pulling that many FPS with QHD though! Nice. And everyone b*tched about them not using Snapdragon lol. Looking forward to seeing the updated camera tests for the 6Ss. Should be impressive and now the flagship Lumias are out too! Wonder if Sony can keep that camera top spot? Great time for phones. Very exciting.

dukaki, 06 Oct 2015The new A9 with only 2 cores has excellent power efficiency... moreThat's silly, 4 of the cores in an octa core were for efficiency. Qualcomm managed to get higher efficiency on the 'big' cores and didn't need the little ones anymore. So it has nothing to do with their attitude towards multithreading.

Also QUALCOMM is rumoured to be working on better multithreading, but even without that most apps do use multiple cores.

I still can't believe that GSM arena didn't say anything about the 1080p resolution for a display of that size. If it was ANY other device released in 2015. with 1080p 5,5" display, you would DESTROY IT in the review.
"...the screen size and resolution help Apple compete..." - I guess where do they actually COMPETE with that resolution? Maybe with Note 3...
Anyway, this is officially the last review ever that I will read on GSM arena.

I don't see the sense of having another review for this. I mean its practically the same phone with the iPhone 6s aint it save for the battery life and some performance difference right?
