Sony Xperia X Compact review: Small and brave

17 September 2016
The Compact series by Sony used to occupy a niche of its own as it combined top-of-the-line specs with a pocketable footprint. The latter is still very much true for the just released Xperia X Compact but it no longer has the flagship specs that we’re used to.

You shall not have different opinions and so you can't post them. :-D

Given up caring about the troll thing, through constant mis-application the term has lost what little meaning it had in the first place.

As for being a Samsung fan, weirdly enough I do get accused of that quite often, funny thing is though I currently own zero Samsung products, and at last count had 6 Sony products around the house (PS3 & 4, my main tv, two pairs of headphones and an M4 Aqua).......if I am a Samsung fanboy, then I am lousy one for sure :)

I think there is error for the- If you connect a DualShock controller, the Xperia XZ can even double as a portable console streaming your Playstation 4 games via PS4 Remote Play.

Lex79, 19 Sep 2016So, even if true you think that is all down to the SOC??? ... moreAre you dumb? The 800 series is strongly superior to the 600 series. It was only a coincidence that Qualcomm made such amazing 600 series processors this year (650, 652, 625, 617, etc.). Not only that the 600 series from Qualcomm this year is amazing, but Sony is considered one of the best when it comes to software optimization, and it is very apparent on how the Xperia X and X Compact competes even with the flagships of this year. Sony knows QHD is pointless on screens below 6" inches so they adopted to 1080p for better performance, battery life, and overall experience without heating issues. That's also one of the biggest reasons why the XA Ultra with MediaTek Helio P10 matches the speed of big flagship android phones like the Note 7. The story doesn't end there. The Xperia UI is considered the most stable OS in Android platform with only 0.08% crashes, even beating stock android with 0.09%. Xperia UI is super light and well-optimized that even iPhones can run it smoothly if only was dedicated for them. And based on the OS stability ranking, Samsung wasn't even on the top 10, which means it's nowhere as stable as Sony's. And I myself can prove this as I have used a low-end Sony Xperia phone which runs smoothly as hell

Maybe Qualcomm should just ditch the whole 8xx series and start marketing the 650 as its premium SOC eh???

Those are devices with qhd screens, there's always going to be a performance penalty for higher resolutions.

I'm waiting for an update to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini. I believe that will be the ultimate Sony Compact device. Tiny device with a 821 SOC, 3 inch full HD display, etc.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, they've been on it for years with the old Z-series. :) But it's true that looks aren't important to some and some of us just can't deal with the boxy design, while others seem to love it (or the brand...) over anything else.

                                    Hi there.
Have been playing with XC for a while now.
                                    Over-Delivering in the photo performance.
Captured Motorcycle race, Dog freesbee - both events where object moves fast (not to say - flying speeds).
Xperia X Compact delivers crisp sharp stills, and not a smallest amount of heat, while camera was operational (for more than two hours nonstop!).
So here's bottom line conclusion - it's a bloody brilliant smartphone.
                                    (:

I mean like just some proper optimizations and the SnapDragon 650 will run like it's an 800 series SnapDragon SoC. Only if paired with the Adreno 530 GPU or something as powerful as that, this will be a beast. Only downside of this CPU is that it doesn't support 4K recording, which is weird because SnapDragon 625 supports 4K
