If I was in Australia I would worry more about lacking LTE band 28 than the call quality on GSM.

AnonD-428442, 20 Sep 2016Why do you want inferior call quality over 2G vs better cal... moreIn Australia Vodafone will still have a GSM network. In USA T-Mobile will have a GSM network. In Europe GSM will be kept for decades to come.
Also I doubt that China will turn off all GSM networks in the coming ten years, because lots and lots of poor Chinese people only have a GSM phone. Also the 3G coverage in China is not so good because they only use high frequencies, at least for China Unicom (WCDMA) and China Mobile (TD-SCDMA). The coverage for chinese LTE is even worse and mostly don't support VoLTE anyway. While there is some experimental support for LTE on 850 and 900 MHz, it's not much built out and almost no Chinese phones support it (the mentioned Mi 5 and Mi Max don't support it). Basically turning off GSM in China would be a complete disaster.
I think the lack of LTE bands in these phones are a bigger problem. 1, 3, 7 + TD-LTE is not good enough! Not even good enough for mainland China.

As the owner of the phone for 1month, let me highlighted a few things that GSMARENA has failed to sum up from the review:
1. It has been a long time since contrast ratio is readable on OLED screen.
2. Battery duration is bad, something to expected from Helio Chipset.
3. Bad gaming experience is expected due to the weaker GPU of the chipset.
4. Overheating is quite frequent but only minor effect on the performance.
5. Camera performance is so bad for a dual camera setup. I rather they use back the Mi4C camera setup and I believe it's a cheaper option.
6. It is has type C usb but not fast charging supported, it's really Fkup when you need to charge from 5% to full.

DaXiong, 20 Sep 2016If you by many countries mean Singapore? A few other operat... moreSingapore is one. Australia is another. China also has a standard for carrier compatibility that pushed Xiaomi to do this.
Besides, calls on 3G is much better quality than 2G. Why do I want inferior call quality over superior one?
I wish reviewers of phone pay more attention to this.

Come on guys! Second review in a row with no battery endurance test? Seriously, if you haven't finished reviewing all the aspects of the phone, then don't rush it, finish them all, then publish.
Battery endurance is one of the most important stuff and I know it's time consuming, but please, few days won't make that much of a difference.

The endurance rating is being completed and it'll be posted in a couple of days, about the FM Radio app, there's even a screenshot of it in the review.

WTF is the trend with the hybrid dual SIM slot? What's the point? It basically makes the phone a single SIM phone if you want to use the SD card feature (and who wouldn't). Blatant trickery.
For the reviewer, any comment on the dual SIM capability? The reason I am still considering Xiaomi (despite their minuses), is that the Xiaomi is one of the first that put a dual SIM where the second SIM can go standby in 3G instead of 2G. This is a big deal considering many countries are starting to switch their 2G frequencies for 4G, rendering non-3G phones useless (and dual SIM phones into single SIM). No other phone companies are thinking about this other than Xiaomi, apparently. And I'm wondering if this phone has that feature (just like the Mi5 and Mi Max)
