Google Pixel and Pixel XL hands-on: First look

4 October 2016
Android is by far the most popular smartphone OS - 7 out every 8 phones run some version of it. And yet its purest form, a Nexus device, is anything but dominant in the marketplace. A rebranding effort sees the "Google phones" change the name to Pixel in the hope to change the popularity as well.

9oofy, 05 Oct 2016folks: Any of the following is a definite deal breaker: 1.... more 1. No sdcard slot - Not bothered so long as I have a minimum of 64GB of internal memory so 128GB is a pukka deal.
      2. Non removable battery - hard pushed to find a top end phone with removable battery so good luck to you finding a top spec'd phone with one.
      3. No hardware keys (on screen soft keys) - Not bothered about this, in fact least of my concerns!

Good luck finding a decent phone out there! Lol

              Mm

Nice looking lol. I knew there would be no expandable memory,Google have never liked it that's why they don't allow writing to memory cards on handsets that support it.

Anyway for those who mentioned HTC this phone has nothing to do with them. It's a Google brand and is made by Google. The looks may be there but nothing else.

I don't see any reason why these phones won't be a failure. Look at the price. Why not a Note7 or a S7 edge or an iPhone7!!!

This phone makes me want to fall asleep. It's features are midrange and it looks so cheap yet the price is high. My old Samsung S3 is more interesting and better looking.

I say give user the independence to use whatever kinda keys he wanted.
All other things are quite correct. Removable battery and SD Card is a must. V20 really seems to be the most improved phone this year.

i, personally, don't like the buttons either but motorolla, xperia and many more has those, so no big deal unless ur using samsung and don't want to change, same goes for SD cards, the 32GB must use the cloud and for the people used to it's not a big deal, for the ones that don't like the cloud they have the larger capacity (thought compromise with the price)
in the end, it's fine that u don't like it but i bet some other will and will buy it ^_^

Only thing that remains is fair pricing. Actual worth of the phone is around 130$, so even with 300% gain per phone sold (which is huge), is should cost around 400 bucks. But greedy-google wanted mote than 700% gain, additional to our private data. They think people are THAT stupid???

I have to say this is the first likable Google phone. Maybe the looks are a bit cheesy with that two tone part in the back of the case and I really hate the lack of memory card slot since I'm on a more limited data plan and I'd have to strictly backup images via WiFi at home. If it falls in water or gets smashed, bye bye all the photos. But mSD card can always be salvaged.
But for some reason it's just nice. I just wonder what will be the cost...
