Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) review: Bite-sized

16 January 2017
Samsung was a prime culprit in the growth of smartphone screen sizes, but back in 2014 it tried something different with the Galaxy Alpha - a high-end phone in a small scale body. The Galaxy A3 is a spiritual successor and we’re here to look at the third iteration.

Seems like nice phone, although it is dissapointing seeing an antutu score on par with Z3C... Nobody cares about compacts anymore

The review, in the display section, says that the screen flickers. This in unacceptable. Does anyone know more about this?

I like how these specs still compete with the iPhone 7, despite being hundreds of dollars less

Same-sung has been releasing the same phine over and over again, this is identical to every other phone.

Dear GSMarena, please always provide information about battery stand-by endurance. It's an important information for some people when purchasing a new phone. Also, excellent endurance numbers calculated from long video playback and browsing are quite worthless for busy people or those who don't use their smarpthones much and don't want to charge device every or every second day.
I'd very much appreciate if you could develop methodology of calculating and comparing of stand-by endurance, rather that just saying that stand-by was good, bad or average.

Another solid battery life result from Samsung. I have to say the A3 (2017) is a very refreshing mini-phone in a world littered with 5+ inch midrangers.

But on that note, I really do hope Samsung revives it's S-mini flagship range. We haven't had any since S5 mini.

That very very good battery life is more than that. It will promise no thermal heating and good performance and overall experience. Good job.

Who the hell mid-range smartphone have incredible battery life vs top-end devices .

Amazing battery life with such a small battery, according to your tests, which I check regularly by the way. You mention the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime. I wanted to try a smaller, budget phone so I went for the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime over the Redmi 4, which weighs a heavy 156 grams compared to the 3S at only 144 grams. The weight of the Redmi 4 makes it less than compact in my view. The Redmi 3S Prime also comes in a Global ROM version with many more LTE bands than the Redmi 4 Prime. Oddly the underspecced Redmi 4A does have a global ROM version but not the regular 4 or Prime, not as yet anyway.
