Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ hands-on: First encounter

29 March 2017
After a month of what seemed like never ending barrage of leaks, Samsung has finally (and officially) announced its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. This marks the company's first major smartphone release since the sad demise of the Galaxy Note7 last fall, which prompted the company to implement a new 8-point battery safety check to the S8 and all future devices.

Some people love IPS LCD displays as it offers almost true to life colours, excellent contrast, have a longer life spans and softer to the eye while others love sAMOLED displays as it offers colours that really 'pop' on your screen, offers great colour accuracy in Basic Mode, infinity contrast, more efficient, and produce pure black images.

For me personally, I love sAMOLED display as when compared to IPS LCD, the sAMOLED display offers richer colours. IPS LCD display is a bit dull and unattractive to my taste. Again, everyone has their own personal preferences.

Suddenly makes the refurbished Note7 a whole lot interesting at least for a while just until Galaxy X or Note 8 have the market for a spin

But it doesn't excite and 'WOW' me as much, mainly because I know I can't get one as it have limited quantity. And it doesn't even sell in stores globally. The only way people can get the Mi MIX is from a China importer, which is a deal breaker for me as there're risks associated with doing so, in terms of customer support, refund rights, and warranty.

For me, I like to 'feel' my phone before buying it. So, I'm giving the Mi MIX a pass. (Kinda like the way you tested your Nexus 6 in a store before buying it).

I have used the S7 Edge SAMOLED display, but the Xperia XZ display is still by far the best screen I have ever seen and used, providing great color accuracy while maintaining excellent contrast, color accuracy, and a surprisingly deep level of blacks for an IPS technology

No other wow-feelings produced by phones, not by iPhones or past/other Android-phones.

Even though the S7's camera was great, i was little bit disappointed with retaining same thing for S8. Not a deal breaker for many though. No one worried when Apple reused same 8 MP camera for three generations......

                                      Samsung -

                                      1) Bixbi - Why why why ...do you want to recreate the wheel when Android / Google has assistant !!! Focus your energies on building better phones (may I add that dont blow up).

Here is how to recover and not add sami bloatware -Give the user the option to program the bixbi button instead to launch google assistant if they want.

                                      2) The S8 Battery - 1 generation old and not enough mAh - should have been at least 4500 for the S8+

                                      3) Camera well it ok but compared to whats out there again close to being 1 generation old.

Nokia did not listen to their customers and see where they are... I fear Samsung is also becoming customer deaf .

                                      Samsung - Wake up.

You never owned every Samsung's product. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have very accurate display with basic mode color profile. Your beloved Xperia is very very poor calibrated, very inaccurate display.
