HTC U11 hands-on: First look

16 May 2017
Just when we thought HTC was through with this generation's flagship announcement in the U Ultra, the Taiwanese manufacturer decided it can squeeze one more release in. But before we get to explain the terrible pun we just made, let us introduce the HTC U11 - the company's true 2017 flagship offer.

Well we will now find the major compromise that ALL HTC's have..
It will do well in reviews, but not sell well.
Killers against it for me,bodged BoomSound,no 3.5,glass back.
A lot of folk buy phones as music/media device, not a set of cameras,we have every firm upgrading camera with loads of their r&d budget, but too few spending same amount on audio,me I would prefer bigger top/bottom bezels for "real" old type BoomSound..
Sorry htc, this one not going to do much to help you,it could have been worse, but it's got nothing apart from iffy edge control that every other flagship hasn't got..

Superb looking phone which is about as far as half the phone buying population will look at. Great camera, super fast chip set, amazing RAM option and several unique features. All round excellent effort from HTC. I'd have liked a larger battery but then I wanted that in the HTC Ultra and then found the so called smaller battery there outlasted most of the larger ones.
HTC have hit a sweet spot here and it's going to work pretty well for them. It won't put them ahead of Samsung or Apple but that's good - part of their appeal is their not the homogenous, cookie cutter phones that those two behemoths churn out.

AnonD-669674, 16 May 2017It's actually more ergonomic to have the fingerprint sensor... moreSamsung, Apple, One Plus, and most chinese flagships have the home button higher and centered... now how many people has made complaints of touching the screen when they use it? No one, If HTC wants to compete, they should have made the home button centered because people also go for looks when choosing a phone.

I dnt know or care what people says...evem if it had 3.5 mm jack peoples would have find another draw back or flaw...u go for bad things and u wll find it...

As of now when i did read the hands on they seems impressed..and by reading the features it looks very promising.... Improved camera, waterproofing (people were crying for it.. Now they got it) , loud sound, new audio technology, and i ll be honest ...i didnt like u ultra initially...
              Bcoz i remembered htc 10 s sturdiness....but whem i saw it in live video i changed my.opinion....
And now with this u11 i m actually started to loving it....
Whatever, it looks quite beautiful really....it took some time for me to like it...but its really beautiful....
Last thing to do... i hope they price it well ...
              From India...

Few first comments are probably HTC employees :) Cutting audio jack is another sheeple-like design. So, just like any hipster, I must carry a bag with adapters. Sorry HTC, but no. HTC = How To Collapse.

Oh my god check out new leader is HTC U11 DxOmark says....

Sony learning from HTC to make a phone with humongous bezels with no stereo speakers, inferior cameras, small batteries, copycat design, and a very high price tag?

AnonD-115822, 16 May 2017DOA , htc should hire me if they want to make a difference ... moreThey really should hire me and you together. We can make a different on the company that once rule the phone market. I wonder what are ceo coo and all the high rank officer are thinking. People buy htc phone because its a metal phone with stereo speaker. For media consumption. The only thing htc should improve is camera , but instead they change all the positive thing about their flagship and make it even worse. Meehhhh to htc for now. Soon, their only business is VR. No more phone. One more thing htc phone is always price higher compared to other phone. Only this u11 retail price is lower than other flagship. I guess they learned their lesson

If it were any higher, you would be touching the screen when trying to hit the scanner. It's in the same spot as the 10, and I've never had any issues with it personally.

Sony in particular should learn from HTC on making good bezel phones.
Sony always making phones with huge bezels

This phone will slowly be forgotten, the uncentered home button is soo low, it's enough to put off some buyers like myself. Glass back meaning it will shatter and break easily. 3000mah on a 5.5inch screen... Yeah good luck HTC.

Why can't they centre the nav buttons in the bottom bezel like everyone else has? It not only looks bad but is worse for ergonomics. Personally I wish they stayed with soft buttons.

This flagship is brilliant, good to see that they are at least back with good speakers like earlier, and one question, can these sonic earphones be used separately xD
