OnePlus 5 review: Doing the math

20 June 2017
Strange that with a name like that OnePlus doesn't know simple addition. Oh well, tetraphobia is real and many product lines avoid the number 4, so it's anything but odd for a Chinese company to skip straight to 5. That, and the 3T was sort of like a 4.

I bought s8 for 500$ on 1 year contract.
One+ doesn't offer anything that would make me think did I made good decision...
If I would shop another phone today, off contract, I would go with Honor 9...
Only thing that One+ has as advantage is Dash charging and if you're Amoled lover, that can be another, all other things are just better with Honor phone.

AnonD-519805, 20 Jun 2017What about the collaboration with DXO? Where is OIS? The se... moreGood catch, there is no OIS. Also, according to the Ars Technica review, the camera has some issues:
"In certain lighting conditions, the OnePlus 5 camera can go nuts with its image processing, making photos look like watercolors or pencil sketches at full crop. If you're posting tiny squares to Instagram or Facebook, this probably won't matter much, but if you like to crop photos, it can become a problem. Low light performance isn't great, either, and lots of times the camera will just seek focus back and forth, even as other phones have no problem."

So those are supposed to be good camera samples or what?

      ROFL!

Okay, so review units of the OnePlus 5 were distributed well in advance so full review's could be published mere hours after the so-called "unveiling". *feigning surprise*

What about the collaboration with DXO? Where is OIS? The sensor is really small, too. After a initial reflex I just cancelled my order. There is no real technical progress with this camera and the design is just a copy of another brand. This is a true example of what it´s all about today: Marketing and profits. No, thanks.

nik.007, 20 Jun 2017Everyone's on youtube is like posting all their reviews and... moreAnother question, then why posting about speculations even yesterday.... Looks like got paid for publicity stunt

[deleted post]Everyone's on youtube is like posting all their reviews and comparisons together, it's clear that the review units were distributed AT LEAST 3-4 days back.
It's like the movies, screening happens but reviews can be published only on the date distributors want

Not that impressed with this new model. Specs are meh and it just doesn't wow me at all. They could have made it so much better

                      - no micro SD
                      - no high res display
                      - no IP rating
                      - no stereo speakers
                      - no large battery
                      - bezels huge as yeti eyebrows
                      - uninspired design
                      - price is not in line with earlier models.
                      - no good customer care (yet that I know of)

I had the OP1 and currently using OP2, will wait for Note8. disappointed.

Review came soo fast... It's an iPhone with an Android OS. Considering the increased price point, OnePlus should have made the 5 waterproof and made the screen QHD or atleast brighter. Expected a lot more from camera. But still i can expect 5 to be a success all because of SD835, which is exactly the reason to buy OP5 instead of S7, G6 which are priced similarly. Apart from the said chipset, there is nothing to justify 5 over S7...

This phone doesn't have that much upgrade to be called oneplus 5 instead it should be oneplus 4.

What sad, without OIS I see it limited to record been pasive, not following a runner, playing action activities. Don't look at the swimming pool too, is forbidden too.

Gokai Pink, 20 Jun 2017Don't mind the design, mind the phone performance :PMost people say pixel is smother but definitely 3t was faster. We came to the point where processing power doesn't mean making it faster but improving the experience. Still you utilities shear power in powerful tasks.

In a few ways this looks like a step backwards.
                                        Higher price
                                        No sapphire camera lens
                                        Smaller battery

Their presentation was laughable, as it turns out. They spent so much time talking about the pretty damn average for this price camera and threw a couple of bones to the "user ideas" that they implemented - dual mode network and quieter vibration (my guess is that they hit those marks accidently and did a post hoc) - while not mentioning the things USERS ACTUALLY ASKED FOR LIKE DECENT IP RATING A GOOD CAMERA (FORGET THE TWO SENSORS AND BUY ONE GOOD ONE) SDCARD HIGHER RESOLUTION SCREEN AND BETTER BATTERY LIFE..... WHO THE HELL ASKED FOR A THINNER PHONE?!!!!!!
