Sony Ericsson K850 vs. Nokia N95: 5 megapixel shootout

04 September 2007
This year several GSM cameraphones have already reached the 5 megapixel barrier. The Nokia N95 has been out long enough now that it's even got an update - an 8GB version with a larger screen and a larger battery so obviously it will stick around...

Hello Ducky_88, cameraphone >>> take picture the moment u don't think u need a camera, and good quality is of highest welcome. Share it through MMS is a breeze. Blogging is also possible. Camera >>> a truly dedicated picturing device but annoying stuff to carry around all the time. Cannot even connect to others to share picture. Muz go through a PC first. Let's not be cruel to mention 3G, music-playing, gaming, software, internet....blah blah blah #Never Miss a Shot# that's the tagline, get it?

By personal opinion its not that one phone is better than the other, its what you need in a phone. Fashion is more what people look at these days anyway. I wouldn't choose either phone, why not wait untill a second release of the SE or go for the N95 8GB. Why settle for basics.

I sometimes think that it would be cool to have a clone so I could buy both phones lol.

Oh and if you were going to buy something for the camera, why not get an actual camera... not a camera phone.

Hey, u'r here to talk bout CAMERAPHONE, not CAMERA, excuse me! Is Canon a Cameraphone? NO. SE rules forever in photography, Nokia even with its Carl Zeiss is stil a pathetic loser IN photography, accept the reality folks!

Don't look at the name of SE "cybershot", on each model you can put those 9 letters but does it make it a better camera?

The camera is good, but Nokia's is also very good and in some cases better. It is up to you to decide, this is just a global image made by gsmarena. I made up my mind, got a n73 and i'll go for the n95. I had SE too but I ain't impressed by the flash which should be a lot better then the led's of the nokia's.
Both are bad if the light conditions are bad.

SE fanboys, cool down. You should also know that the nokia is much better in the most ways, more functions etc. Sure, the SE is faster but that is pretty obvious while the SE has less to offer.

SE or Nokia? Which is better is up to you.

it seems that the n95 wins over k850 overall. But for all ya camera phone freakes out ther "CAMERA", DATS DA keyword here. The camera built into the k850 is far superior that the n95. Its a cybershot for GOD SAKE. So if your intrested in crisp clear pictures , then go for the k850. But if you fell the you have to do much more than just take picture then k850 is an obvious choice. And by the way, if you feel talking is just important, then ehy not just buy a nokia 3310, its only 23.99$ haha

I own a K810i and my best mate has a n73, which I guess is essentially the baby brothers to these phones, and the 73 wins out on camera, video, and decent sounding mp3 playback [yes, using the same files]. However, the SEs sound quality for calls, battery life, and speed of use of the UI are far far superior. So it kinda balances out. If, like me, you want a fast phone which wont disappoint you terribly on pics or music, grab the SE. If you're a perfectionist, and don't mind waiting for your results, grab the Nokia. I've owned both, and now I'm switching to the 6500 Slide cos I'm tired of all my SEs looking/feeling the same to use.
Either way, they're both [N95 and K850] going to be good phones.
At the end of the day, if you REALLY are desperate for amazing pictures, buy a DSLR camera, Otherwise you're never going to get amazing results. Picture quality isn't all about the MPix anyway, the Canon iXUS 5 camera (5mp) will thrash these two blind.
                                Cheers

Hey GSMArena Team, are u guys using Nokia phones? THe review is titled "Sony Ericsson K850 vs. Nokia N95: 5 megapixel shootout" HELL WHY did u guys judge on the video-recording functions? They did not record at 5 MP did they? Put back the 4 points (1-5) to k850i & u'll see urself dat k850i stil wins despite the BIAS evaluation!!! Low ISO, water-colour effect, slow camera-starting, fantasy colour correctness u guys stil say N95 wins???? Yeah, it is an all-round better phone than k850i but camera>>>NEVER!!!

Guys, calm down. Both Phones are great, no doubt about it. But take a look at this SE details:

                                    1. Nokia produces phone alone while SE is Sony's sister company. Maybe the reason why SE is not boosting its video quality is because Sony is also making stand-alone video cameras. Sister vs sister? not likely

                                    2. Nokia is full of functions against SE, but of course the price also doesn't match. If SE is going to match the price, of course they would come up with a better competition (with reasonable price, they would put extra features if ever)

                                    3. Nokia bundle things in one package but then you're not going to use (or you can't fully use) some of them anyway. Put the basics first before anything else (e.g. battery life)

                                    4. K850 vs N95. Sure N95 leads. But K850 kicks back and matches up. What if SE produces a phone that has K850's prowess + N95's features and matches up the price. think again.

Clearly, Nokia seems to be wanting the lead among Mobile industries, an sure thay have it. But hints suggest that SE isn't really taking the competition seriously. If they do, Nokia will sure have to be backing down those great feaures in a bundle. See the Picture now?
