Doogee Mix review: Dress to impress

10 August 2017
We've always tried to maintain an impartial perspective and shy away from bias in our work. Whether that shines through or not is really up to you, our readers to decide. However, we will admit right off the bat that Doogee hasn't really received any significant attention from us in the past. While there are perfectly good reasons for that as well, we still feel compelled to give the Doogee Mix the benefit of the doubt.

Got this phone after an iphone5, had it nearly 4 years and it's never missed a beat. Been dropped loads of time, no damage. Picture quality is a bit hit and miss, but not the worst I've used. Charging is getting slower, but battery lasts ages. May change it soon though as I fancy a bigger screen and wireless charging.

Don't get fooled by the name ISOCELL. The S5K3P3 is a patently garbage toy camera image sensor.

Other phones with that image sensor model, such as the Ulefone Armor 2, also produce noisy images in perfect daylight! No co-incidence.

Images in low light are admittedly bright, but noisy the more.

The software of this camera is also possibly implemented poorly, but this image sensor is the main problem.

Also the UleFone Armor 2 has camera freezing bugs which force the user to restart. But that is possibly the software's fault, not image sensor.

I bought a Mix about a year ago. Bad choice, Constantly crashing when running apps or scrolling messages, bluetooth fails every time in different cars, sistem fails . A truly disgrace.I sent a messange to Dogee site, no response, i send message to the Spanish site Powerplanet, they gave a tremendous list of things witch i really understood that they were trying to skip responsability. A big mess ,does not worth it. They should offer Doogees soo that people crash them into a wall. Never again, just because they did not respond me, big lack of interest from them to maintain costumers.

hello to every one . pls read this and think about .
I am a mobile repair specialist and seller too . in 2017I sold a few models of doogee . Each had its own problems
(fingerprint ,bad battery , not ota update, bad 4g and more . So I changed them with other brands
I decided to install them firmware again , Each one found a new problem, and some diedد
so i send few email to company . after 3 month i recived this answer ( pls check our site

Now pay attention Do not waste your money
1- doogee havent a suporter for your problems
2- Doogee havent a good sound spk and calling voice
3-Most profiles are unrealistic ( camera . battery , finger print time , ota update,.........
4- There is no definite way to install the firmware, and any problem can be foundEven if they are of a model
5- If you have this brand, forget about updating to the newer Android
6- The handsets are not even supported by Google, for example, look at the Smart Lock .If available, it will be removed after reset by recovery or it will not have a face lock . check android 7 original options
7- Go to the site and you will see thousands of problems said and there are no answers
8- I was fired by writing the brand problems. Because they could not solve, but I will write on different sites.
9- ok now , you can read and writing your comment about my idea

Extremely bad phone - my worst experience.
The phone comes with installed malware and spy viruses.
The camera does not shoot well, and the flash is weak.
After some months of use, the phone started to freeze. When attempting to restart, it loses it's android and must be reinstalled in a workshop. After few repairs, the phone bricked completely.

Hmm... i dno how i feel about this...Yet.. I work in media and I needed a quick and dirty phone with decent spec to run afew medical apps and get some quick captures...I go through phones like tyres..
I did some research but for the price, the Doogee was the highest spec CPU and Ram combo especially here in Australia... These go for about 300 on Ebay... My previous throwaround was a Huawei LYO L02, quad 1.3ghz with 1gb ram. No issues aside from performance as to be expected, but theres soooo much rubbish due to google updates, that im left with about 350mb ram to play with even though i install everything on 32gb TF card.
Needless to say, it kills apps and resets them, so if im hafway through running a scan of numbers, or remotely controlling a camera through wifi, it pukes, then i have to start again or jsut prayi didnt lose a shot.. even instagram simply shuts down and restarts as the ram resets itself (on the huawei)

So i ordered this dodgy Doogee, and it took 36hours to get to me from hongkong via DHL (impresive) and cost me $190AUD (about $150US) for the 4gb model, thinking 4gb would be enough.. I cleaned out the bloatware of the garish theme and got rid of the seriously ridiculous rear vision mirror ornament pull down browser launcher thats like an old fashioned blind...completely pointless and wastes resources...
Anyways, Im left with a little over 3gb ram to play with. Still a little too much useage IMO considering NOTHING is actually running yet aside from OS and google. Ive stopped the apps that launch on startup.
So i "froze" afew services like Google Music and the default browser, which is Opera but theres no actual update or app info on this. "freezing" is a function that lets you quarantine an app before getting rid of it altogether, but still, not much change...

So much ram being used, I honestly dont know how anyhting under 1gb ram can run these days.. but thats a Google thing, not a phone thing, as my Huawei also bloated with google and system rubbish...

Apparently this Doogee flies when using Nova Launcher, so we'll see once I install that.

Soooo i ran the camera app to see what the fuss was about.
Stills...... umm... underwhelmed.. for 2 lens' you'd think it would not only focus quicker, but offer afew new functions such as running the second lens as a focus assist in B&W EVF or ever providing a 3d capture option in a lower res, seeing as the lenses are side by side and the actual CPU spec should be able to do this. The second lens could also be used for redundant picture taking, ie one could be shooting video, while the other captures stills at a different focal length as you go along. Or it COULD actually do the 'bokeh" thing if they set it up right, but all this is, is just a blurred vignette which is completely useless. Id rather a high fstop shot, wiht everything in focus across 2 lenses and exposure ranges, and then muxed (HDR) in processin and let ME worry about how im going to blur the background. when there are enough apps out there that can simulate defocus and DoF.
There are many uses for multiple lense set ups but the saddest thing with this is that when i blocked one of the lenses, i saw absolutely NO difference. I really do think its a fake lens...

                    So image quality is average..
BUT not only does it focus' slower than my old huawei, but worse still, is that it doesnt give you proper res and bitrate options. The hardware in this thing SHOULD be enough to do this. This is purely a SW thing.. Other phones give you options to adjust res AND bitrate, this doesnt. You get resolution options and thats it..
Choose your res, but you cant choose the DPI or density or quality level. I also found the SCREEN has a slight magenta cast, so skin tones DO look a little reddish, not in the pics, but on the screen.

And the WORST of the lot... Video... if you can call it that...
Running everything to and from internal memory, twe get he same quality issue on resolution and bitrate... They refer differnt quality ranges to resolution, which is misleading. as 1080 isnt that much better than 720p especially on this screen.. especially if youre using crappy bitrates... With no option to tweak bitrate OR frame rate. Again this hardware SHOULD have the ability to provide these options, but it doesnt..

Oh and get this, whats even WORSE is that the video DROPS FRAMES no matter what youre shooting, no matter what youre doing, no matter what quality you select.
Completely UNUSABLE video.. Now admitedly, I havent tried recording to card, but thats the next option. If it still drops frames, im sending it back under warranty as its not doing what it was sold to do...

Ill be writing to Doogee about this, as even a basic working video camera at 720p is acceptable, but even at that res, you currently get obvious dropped frames DURING filming so playback shows these same frames dropping. If it skipped frames in the preview and gave you full framerate recordings it wouldnt be an issue... but it doesnt do that either..

So yeah, if you rely on your camera, as I do when im grabbing set up shots, stats, capturing camera settings off lcd screens, candids, etc, then you might want to try another camera app (which is what im about to do)

No issues with network, wifi, 4g etc. Audio from the speaker was TOO quiet even at its loudest. Speakerfone is only good if your in a quiet room, You cant change the colour cast or adjust colour levels on the display, fingerprint scanner is fine and fast, oh and theres NO notepad... The SMS and phone apps are horridly coloured and theres no way to adjsut them unless you install another SMS app, I also havent installed any games or standalone APKS until i clean out my TF from my old phone first.

If you want it for gaming on a budget to play emulators and the like, by all means the specs and what ive seen on youtube have this thing screaming, but if you want it for media, photo/video and vlogging or archiving events then you might wanna skip it... Problem is skipping this, means throwing another $50-$100 on top of your budget..

GSM ARENA You should be ashamed of this review.. With as many small business that startup every day in China and how much competition the low-mid tier section has.. Because the Doogee Mix looks like a wannabe MiMix..... You give that bias ass review.. Please just keep it real.. The doogee mix blew your benchmark tests out of the building.. Never ever did I see those scores coming.. And the only comment after the tests are how poorly the device did in sound.. So what.. They didn't deliver great too notch sound.. It smashed the tests.. If your not blown away by that just quit your job man.. And please review the Doogee Mix 2. It's everything the 1 isnt.. Peace AND
                      P. S. THE DOOGEE MIX 2 AND ONE IS WAY BETTER THE MOTHER F'N S5. DID SOMEONE REALLY BUST OUT AN S5 IN COMPARISON.. AND THE DOOGEE MIX 2 CAME WITH A PERFECT CASE....

no more 4k after ota update. even using open camera app, uhd 4k is not available. perhaps we are waiting some improvement from oreo on october. if the video looks jerky or stuttery then fix it. do t remove it.

This phone is a godsend for pple who want to be on the high end of things for the best price possible u cant say this is an expensive phone considering its pricetag and another thing should also be noted its design is that of any recent smartphone as well it is bezel less to a very understandable degree, i myself would buy it but i already got a great phone :D
