LG V30 hands-on review: First impressions

31 August 2017
LG’s brief flirtation with OLED gave us the Flex phones, but now it’s a long-term commitment. Yet – surprisingly – it’s not the screen, which covers 82% of the front of the LG V30, that is the star attraction. Instead, the much-improved dual camera is the main focus of this generation.

No other phone could compete with G6 beside Samsung S7,8 and V20. So it is impossible for them to come up with next flagship delivering worser shots than G6 did. Yeh, I wish they fitted 1/2.5 sensor as Samsung managed to do. The supreme wish is that they did that brilliant stuff as Nokia once did. Imagine their approach in processig multiplied onto 1/1.6 sensor being coupled with f/2.0 aperature and having 16 Mp and 4 Mp LL mode wheres 4 pixels unites into one to increse sensitivity in two times!

Yes I credit them for squeezing so much out of a crap sensor with the bright lens and super heavy processing....which is actually not so great looking upon inspection. But non the less it's a weak sensor and laughable addition to a $750 flagship.
Just imagine if it was 20 or 16mp with 1.12um or 12 or 13mp with 1.4-1.5um?
When even most budget devices have larger sensor.

Yes it's a good phone and all, but stop commenting as fans and get realistic here.

Spectacular phone, I only comes second to S8+ and mostly because of the battery.
It will have better audio, prolly better camera too and almost as good display for the very first time!
I am so glad that LG is back in business, i may return to them someday, if they keep on like that!
Shame that they didn't make it a mm thicker, so that it can host a bigger battery.
I tend to change phones every year, so i don't mind lacking a removable battery, if that means, that i will have a bigger capacity one.
After ppl blasted the G6 for it's battery, they increased the screen and left it with such a battery...
Still beats the note in books though, being thinner makes more sense than sacrificing battery capacity for a pen.
I guess the S8+ is for me, the V30 for women and the Note 8 for artists and architects...

Great job done by LG this time. I was waiting for so long to see LED display in LG flagship and this time they did everything with this device so perfect. True flagship from LG.

Has a F1.69 Aperture but markets as F1.6 what kinda rounding off is that ! , POLED is a Welcome change and everything else is fine unless it doesn't bootloop. I'd choose a OP5, NOKIA 8 or a Galaxy S8 over this anyday..

The main cameras' picture quality is terrible. Oversharpened and if you look closely as details such as trees, etc, it looks as if there was a Photoshop filter applied to save some details but it just looks bad. I hope this isn't final software, this is quite disappointing right now.

I told you even 1 year ago that because of the low sales, LG will copy Samsung. But the reason why LG have low sales is that they have poor build quality, poor quality of G5 module contact (gap, wears out quickly), bad reputation due to bootloops, shattergate (fragile camera glass), ugly design (the back of G5, V20, G6), weak GPS, poor quality screen (image retention). And LG still don't understand why the low sales. They still don't understand what did they wrong. Therefore they misunderstand the failure of G5 and started copying Samsung with glass unibody, non-removable battery, small bezels and curved screen.

I hope LG V30 will be a big flop and profit loss, in hope that they will learn their lessons and will go back to the G4 and V10 design (removable battery, FM Radio, IR blaster, flat screen, LCD screen) for their future phones (and fix the bootloop and shattergate (fragile camera glass) once and for all).

LCD is better than AMOLED. But unfortunately LG used the same poor quality LCD screen since G4. That's why they have image retention and other problems. All other brand's LCD screens are flawless.

Pity really I have always admired LG ever since its G3 even though I like my Notes but sadly it's always lacking that essential something to win me over.

It's a shame it couldn't incorporate it's latest 4k HDR TV tech into its screens. I have an LG TV and it's 10 years old and still as good as the day I bought it. I shall be buying one of the LG Tvs soon and still keep the old one.

I personally hated viewing content on the S8's curved screen, and the fingerprint scanner is better placed on the V30, though I don't even use it so it's a moot point. I would agree that the next Pixel XL may be better, no headphone jack on that one so that's also lame.
