Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact hands-on review: First impressions

31 August 2017
So, you want an Android power-house that won't rip your pockets, at least not in the literal sense, that is? Sony's Compact line has traditionally been one of the first places to turn. The choice beyond that is limited to say the least. That being said, while most of us around the office can't exactly relate to the issues of small form factor fans, we can definitely understand some of their feelings for last year's Xperia X Compact.

I'm very glad it has a720p screen. No need to rate l waste resources on a resolution that will be unnoticeable anyway.

AnonD-510275, 31 Aug 2017Snapdragon 835 with 720p? Isn't that smooth-overkill? The funny looking, big bottom bezel on it's front screen is overkill ! Sony isn't known for have speakers loud enough for watching apps 😜 either. Once again, I am disappointed with Sony's fall lineup. Maybe in a year or two I'll get a Sony handset. Smartphone competition will be fierce in 2019 and 2020. Good luck to all OEMs .

Looks good, looking forward to see the battery life tests.
Is the screen gorilla glass 5? And also interested in the scratch resistance of the plastic.

Instead of adding those little technical tricks, sony shoud have focused more on their apps which are too basic & their marketing dept.

                      Good phone BUT,
                      My nitpicks:
-32gb internal storage is really not enough, after Orea you will have- what- 20GB at most, barebones.
                      -Not metal unibody
-For most simply too small screen

                      Positive:
-720p screen with flagship hardware, very good performance, and most likely a long battery life

I want a premium small-screened Android phone (similar size to iPhone 7). I'll check this out again next year around March.

Have been waiting for a perfect small size phone (fed up carrying large phones with unneeded high res screens and poor battery life)... This will be my next phone

                              Sounds like a solid phone.
I much prefer sub 5" devices for pocket value.
Hope it will be priced fairly, as opposed to usually.

Sony really needs to try harder to reach fans and re establish it's good rep
when it comes to phones(which IMO ended around the xperia play era).
