Asus Zenfone 4 family hands-on

27 September 2017
Why bother fighting the sharks for attention at IFA when you can hold your own private event and have the spotlights all to yourself? That was Asus' line of thought, apparently, which brought us to Rome last week for the European launch of the Zenfone 4. Or rather, the Zenfone 4s. Yes, because there are quite a lot of them.

The camera is amazing, the ois is doing greit in low light and videos, excellent colors. You can take photos in almost complete darkness without flash light. In most situations you get better photos with zen 3 than huawei p9 (not lite) or samsung s8. Test what the hardware can do with a stable camera app from android 6 build.

Asus released an update for their Zenfone 3 last week which broken even more phones. Do not trust Asus! This is a warning if you are thinking of getting an Asus product.

In their Zenfone 3, the OIS and laser AF n... more"Fake parts", well that is a fake statement as well, my career actually requires acknowledge of this, you get what you pay, any hardware has a code that identify it, can be cheaper but no fake, you can't fake the processor, camera, ram or adreno Gpu's, you can actually make false advertisements (using hardware that differs from the specs released, that's is another thing, ASUS never keep that hide you can always go and find the hardware and the codes that actually match the advertised ones).

And for the sensor, ZF3 camera cannot be the best but its in line with the price and the segment (always a bit under expensive flagship from another brands), also you can find not shinny but regular reviews about it (like a lot of phones, even the Iphone 6 had really regular camera for the price it cost).

So if you want blame ASUS for not using the best camera sensor but the hardware is there, if I am not wrong it packs a SONY camera, actually its not weird to see phones of any brand going into guarantee for problems with the camera but that is just bad luck.

Well, I liked the review, Zenfone pro as usual pack the best hardware for the price (just the camera make for it), people doesn't realize this very often and changing the software is not a big deal in my case (you can use stock android if you want and the Asus software can be downloaded from the playstore, it has nothing to do at all with the hardware).

However the front design its not really that good and I must agree with that, totally lack of personality, I guess I'm going for the S8 this time if I can't find a deal breaker like I did with my Zenfone 2.

The provide an unlock tool that will fail upon use, however it will register on their server as unlocked so the device will not receive any update while on the device itself will still shows as locked. They will then blame a coding error but provide no further help, except maybe to bring it into a service centre. But unlocked phones are not covered under warranty.

So many people are whining about Asus bloatware & bad updates breaking critical functions of the phone. Does anyone know if they are easy to root and install custom roms? Are they as well made as their computer parts? Meaning are they worth the price point to get an 835, 6 g ram running custom ui?
