Google Pixel 2 XL review

30 October 2017
Google has come a long way since the days of Nexus smartphones. This is only the second iteration of the Google Pixel and it shows how much Google’s software and hardware have evolved in the past year. Both Pixel smartphones got a refined, yet simpler appearance. This review is specifically for the larger Pixel 2 XL. We’ll be reviewing the smaller Pixel 2, separately.

SpiritWolf, 01 Nov 2017But not in picture quality. Autofocus, yes. Low light... We... moreResolution and quality are not the same thing. Again it's only main advantage is in resolution. Not quality, not colors, no focus, not dynamic range...Though it has better than average, yada yada.
So therefore I would still take the 808 or 1020 over it for resolution.

Really liking the Pixel 2 XL, but it is unfortunate that it does not have NFC.
Plus the screen issues sound annoying.

Anonymous, 01 Nov 2017That high resolution is the only big advantage the 950 has.... moreBut not in picture quality. Autofocus, yes. Low light... Well, i have some pretty neat photos, can compare to any nowadays flagship. Video... I don't give rats ass about video.

But the the bezels. Just just ridiculous. Only the galaxies have actual nearly non existent side bezels and thats because of the curved edges.

Sure....It's a great phone...If it was $200-$300 cheaper. And even then it would only be for a select crowd considering the mid rangers and flagship killers you can get at that price point. And the cheap compromises the pixel 2 made.

This is the most over priced Android phone out there. The only Android device more over priced is the Sony projector.
When you consider the quality choices, lowered specs, compromises, excessive price hikes, and severe denial and defense from all the fanboys....
Sadly this is the Google iPhone. iPhone of Android.

Regardless of which you prefer between the 2 XL or the Note8 for instance.
Google has zero reason or right to charge almost the same as the Note8. Again not speaking on which one you want or how you feel about Touchwiz or stock...Even though speed tests put the Note8 neck and neck and even ahead sometimes....
The issue is the cost into everything specs, software, development, and accessories is all more with the Note8. Display, ram, features, digitizer, pen, headset jack, expandable storage, free included $100 headphones that will sound much better than the wireless options that would cost you over $100 more, wireless charging.
Talk about gimmicks all you want but that's subjective and irrelevant. The point is nothing about the pixel justifies this outrageous price.

Sony Fanboy Bitches, 31 Oct 2017And that folks, is why I still stand myself correct, that O... moreWell you knowledge on screens is no very good. Or biased to say the least. And ill informed.

First of all you are now talking about a comparison of many 3K phones. Not 2k. And when you said 2K you were talking about 2.5K which is Quad HD. 2k is a resolution that is just a tiny hair over 1080p.

And what a long exaggerated rant just to falsely claim OLED can't be the future because issues some have with display quality or the possibility of burn in.
Yes the differences are more than just a little. The advantages are across the board.
Yes Oled can burn in. But doesn't mean it will. Out of 15 plus phones from 2009 I have seen slight burn in on one. And it's not the 2009 one either.
It happens. But is not a guarantee.
And that is completely bias one sided claims that tries to paint the picture as if LCD panels dont get image retention. Or have issues that can happen only to LCD and not oled like backlight related issues.
That right there alone debunks everything you said. Good day

Your comment didnt even make sense. Obviously stock android still has more customizing and features. That wasnt the point. And it didnt change what they said.
Its everything the 2xl takes away, compromises, faults, and dramatically over charges... And all of you are blindly defending strongly like a religion.

These 12mp phones have had many advantages over it for a while. In focus, video, low light, and so on.

I handled it at bestbuy yesterday and it was disappointing af. The thick side bezels make it chunky and the screen is pretty bad. The blue shift is real and makes it feel like the cheap tn panel screens you get on ultra-low-end phones. I hate apple and avoid buying their products, but at least they don't have the stones to release something this bad...

Finally a camera that's equal or can even beat Lumia 950/950XL camera. Still, 12 Mpx is a bit too low pixel count for maximum detail. 20-23 Mpx should be standard.

So no, the day where you see Android becoming an iOS look-a-like is still years ahead. For hardware though, you're right.

lagos, 01 Nov 2017Me complain? The opposite actually. I'm wonderfully surpris... moreOh the sweet irony. Android was criticized for advantages of open source software and the features third party incorporated in it like file managers and stuff. Only for apple to open up it's ecosystem. Also nobody is defending this pixel. There is a small segment of Android users who like it. That's the true beauty of Android. You can get any manufacturers vision of Android on their phone. Stock happens to be pretty smooth while still offering more customisation than any iOS iteration. If you don't want that there always HTC sense, touchwiz, miui, hydrogen os, lineage, oxygen os and many more to name. Also even in land of stock there are many manufacturers making phones eg Nokia and Motorola and stuff. Also I'm happy with my momentum earbuds which comfortably fit in a 3.5 mm Jack on my device
