Apple iPhone X review

08 November 2017
The anniversary iPhone is here. The iPhone X. Or the iPhone 10. The name is as confusing as the product itself is game-changing. Tim Cook's vision finally overwhelmed Steve Jobs ideological remnants. A new dawn for the iPhones has begun, free of the iconic Home key and the notorious screen bezels.

TheProperGentleman, 09 Nov 2017I think that we need more competition in the SoC department... moreA lot of the problem with Qualcomm and Samsung and the rest is that now that Apple does their own SoCs, the market for high end performance chipsets is greatly diminished, and while Android encompasses the vast majority of phone sales, high end flagships are a small part of that total.

Android phone purchasers are also less likely to contribute to on-going revenue streams and are less likely to be willing to purchase applications and services, so the only profit point for handset makers and chip designers are at the point of the handset's purchase.

Add that to the fact that Google puts out more resource hungry OS versions, and the handsets offer lower initial performance, and you have an endless loop of devices running out of gas because they didn't have enough headspace to begin with, and everyone from the SoC/chip makers to the handset makers having little incentive to increase performance so that a phone user can keep his device for a longer period of time.

Take a gander at those single core Geekbench scores, and you'll see that all the SoC makers are using pretty much stock ARM cores, maybe tweaking cache sizes and big/little configurations, but not dealing with any real design at an architectural level.

        BTW, no, I'm European.

Also who cares if MrWhosetheBoss is an amateur or not. He's transparent, he *shows* the tests as he runs them, unlike gsmarena who may well cook their numbers and if they don't their tests is very unrealistic (nobody talks to their phone anymore, nobody uses the screen of a phone for merely 2 hours a day)

Iphones (in general) are near the bottom in battery tests , iPhone X is near the top. Is that so hard to understand?

I just gave you a link that it is stress tested and wins over most 2017 flagship. If anything standby time is what keeps it back , not the other way around (screen on time is from outta of this world)...

And nobody (NOBODY!) forces you to use wired headphones , if you don't want to.
You can still use bluetooth or other type of wireless headphones.
But not having 3.5mm jack prevents others from using wired headphones.

Just because you don't need it, doesn't mean others not.

            Please, don't act like democrat.

A lot of Android folks who think otherwise are just spending too much time in the echo chamber.

I was a Samsung fan boy, but now which of Samsung flagship features is better than this phone? Nothing, maybe limitless Android OS.
That also find in other cheaper brand like Huawei or even Pioneer brand like nokia...
Now iphone have fast charging, samsung fast wireless charging!, 4k video, waterproof body, that they dont have for year..... even bezel less Amoled screen...
Shame on samsung by making this brilliant Oled for Apple. The key to lose to main competitor...
I think samsung going to (and want to) be 3rd part provider company for screen and chipset like sony that provide image sensor.
                Im probably buy this phone...

Anonymous, 09 Nov 2017Once you go Android, you'll never go back to iOS. Yes. You're right. I've used iPhone 5 and 6S. Also many android phones as well. iPhone is a bit boring compared by android. Also don't go for android phones with heavy UI and many features like Samsung. Consider any lightweight UI like stock android or Sony Xperia. They are more smooth.

But, they stop everyone else (Even you don't know whether or not you're gonna need the jack sometime) from using another option. It's DEvolution.

As for longevity, first, Apple is a crappy brand, so i'm not surprised the wired pair doesn't last. Second, you're (again) not forced to use in-ear phones. I use over the head (But still portable) headphones and they are maybe 3 years old already - still good as new.

Sathish, 09 Nov 2017The performance section shows the Apple's prowess in Chip k... moreI think that we need more competition in the SoC department in Android. Qualcomm is really slowing the progress. They don't have to work hard on their SoCs because either way OEMs are going to use them. I think that better competition from Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Google would really benefit the market.

Apple is 2 years ahead at least. And by this progress, Qualcomm won't do shit about it. When the A13 or the A14 from Apple comes, Snapdragon SoCs will barely be better than the A11 Bionic. It's really sad.

Anonymous, 09 Nov 2017Well you're still totally blind. "Better" than what? $5 wir... moreThe revolution is not having to deal with the tangle of wires.

There are many times when I would just not bother with EarPods because I didn't want to have to deal with the jangle and untangling of wires, and AirPods free you from all that.

As for longevity - my daughter goes through EarPods once ever one to two months - and these are real EarPods, not janky counterfeits found on Amazon. (I don't understand it - my last set lasted over a year.)

Yes, charging anything is a pain but you don't have to do it very often (depending on usage), and they last for hours at which time you replace them in the case which can change them up again. Essentially you get about 24 hours of use before you have to recharge the case.

My wife loves hers too, and I'm thinking of getting them for my daughter to see if they can cure her of her constant search for more EarPods.

I never liked bluetooth earphones because of the constant hassle of pair/unpairing with various devices, but AirPods with the W1 chip pair with all your devices logged into the same Apple ID across Macs and iDevices effortlessly.

They do pair with devices outside the Apple ecosystem, but there you're reduced to the standard pair/unpair process which turned me off bluetooth in the first place.

The performance section shows the Apple's prowess in Chip knowledge. it will take atleast 2 years for Qualcomm/Samsung to come up with a chip that lock horns with A10/A11 chips. By that time A13 chips could be in the reigns of 2025's..
Sad that Android cant utilize the world's top end chipsets anymore.. :(

Also, having to recharge yet another device is EXTREMELY annoying/inconvenient.
And it's even worse it has limited lifespan, while wired headphones will be good even 10+ years later if you are careful with them.

And finally, bluetooth is always an option, so you've been brainwashed to think it's 3.5mm vs bluetooth. It's not. I can still use bluetooth on my phone which does have 3.5mm, so where's the evolution here? I think we all know the answer.
